Migration Update
Itslearning migration content is now available for teacher retrieval.
To import these files into Canvas, follow the directions below in order:
1. Map Network Drive Directions: Mapping the drive will make it visible to transfer files. This step must be done while on the HCPS Network (while in any HCPS building).
2. Migrating Content into Canvas from Network Drive (Elementary View)
Migrating Content into Canvas from Network Drive (Traditional View)
This gives step-by-step directions on how to input the file(s) into Canvas. Once this step is complete, teachers can access their Canvas files from in or out of network. Important: The larger the file, the longer it will take to import.
3.Global Protect(Optional) : Installation directions for Global Protect for teachers who wish to access the Mapped Drive from home. Global Protect allows teachers to sign-in to the HCPS network when they are off site.
- Global Protect must be installed while in the HCPS Network.
- After installation, Global Protect will only work when out of Network. Teachers do not need to sign-in to Global Protect while within the HCPS Network.
FAQ
Do I need to import all the migrated files into Canvas this week?
No, the files will be available throughout the summer for teacher retrieval. However, it is important that you Map the Drive and install Global Protect if you wish to complete the migration process from home.
Do I need to be in the HCPS Network to access my files once the import is complete?
No, you can access Canvas from any device in or out of network by signing into harford.instructure.com.
What courses do I currently see in Canvas?
You should see the Canvas PL course as well as shells for programmatically created courses you are teaching this year. These shells are provided to house imported files from itslearning and provide a place for you to explore in addition to your sandbox. If you don’t see them, navigate to Courses > All Courses.
If I have four shell courses for the different sections I teach of one course, do I need to input the itslearning files in all the sections?
No, teachers only need to input itslearning content once for each course they teach. The shell courses are for teachers to organize their personal files. The shell courses were created based on sections, not courses. In most cases, teachers may not have the need to work in all of the shells.
Will I receive new courses in the August like the old itslearning push?
Yes, new courses with county curriculum will be pushed out each August for the new school year. They are separate from the shell courses. Shell courses will remain for teachers to copy their desired resources into their new 2022-2023 school year courses.
