Top TEN News @ Weston
September 20th, 2019
1. eLearning Days: All buildings will be closed on the planned eLearning days (11/7/19 and 2-5). There will be opportunities for families to arrange child care through the Boys and Girls Club and perhaps the YMCA. More information coming soon.
2. First grade will have vision screening on Monday September 23rd. For those students who wear glasses make sure they have them.
3. You might have heard in the news that the state overall did not do well on ILEARN testing last Spring. . . . that is NOT the case for GCCSC and Weston students!
At the last School Board Meeting a report was shared with our Board that detailed the ILEARN results for GCCSC. There is a document in the download section below that is a portion of that report . . . . . Mr. Davis pulled those areas that pertain to 3rd grade and Weston. When you look over the data there are MANY areas where GC 3rd graders (and specifically Weston) are in the Top 25% for the entire state . . . . that’ GREAT! Although this assessment is only a small portion of a student’s current knowledge it is still important for us to use in planning their overall educational journey.
4. The Weston School Improvement Plan for 2019-2020 can be found in the document section below. All GCCSC schools presented these to the School Board for their approval this month. We use ours to help guide instruction and grow ALL of our students. A copy can be found on our website also. Here’s information for IDOE requirements. https://www.doe.in.gov/school-improvement/school-improvement-plans
5. The Weston FUN RUN will happen on November 1st. More info will be coming soon! Watch the video below to get a glimpse of what this will look like at Weston. FYI . . . . ours will be a GLOW RUN in the gym.
6. Menu Change for Sept 23rd: Instead of Cheeseburgers and French Fries we will now have mini hot dog and macaroni and cheese . . . . the rest of the menu is the same.
7. The GCHS Interact Club is helping with Zoey's Place to raise money for their new home they are remodeling on North Street. Please consider coming to bowl, being a lane sponsor, and/or donating items for the silent auction. (see the document center below) Check donations can be made payable to Zoey's Place Child Advocacy Center and can be couriered to me. The mission of Zoey's Place Child Advocacy Center is to minimize trauma to child victims of sexual abuse and neglect by providing a centralized, safe and child-friendly facility from which a Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) conducts investigations and intervention activities. Zoey's Place goals are to reduce trauma, seek justice, and foster hope and healing for children and their non-offending caregivers.
8. You should have received an email on Tuesday of this week titled . . . Weston Family Survey. We need one person from each family to complete this. Let Mr. Davis know if you didn’t receive an email link to the survey.
9. Plans are underway for the Annual Channel 13 Coats for Kids event. Coats are being collected at all Classic Cleaners locations in Indianapolis through October 11th. Distribution day is planned for October 19th at the Indiana State Fairgrounds from 8:00am-2:00pm in the Elements Financial Blue Ribbon Pavilion at 1202 E. 38th Street in Indianapolis.
