Benjamin Phelps School - May 2022 Newsletter
Finally after almost two years, students had an opportunity for enrichment experiences outside of Phelps! Many thanks to our amazing PTO for organizing our field trips. This month, students in 4th grade went to the Connecticut Science Center, the 3rd grade classrooms visited Storrowton Village and the 2nd grade went to the Forest Park Zoo. It was so nice to see students out exploring, experimenting and learning in other environments.

Staff Crystal Apple Award for April
Ms. Conklin deserves to the Crystal Apple Award for the time, passion, and dedication she puts into each of her science lessons. She instills such a strong sense of curiosity and love of learning science within her students with the unique ways she approaches her lessons. The time she puts into her inquiry based lessons allow students to feel like true scientists while in her classroom. Students have made clay model replicas of the brain and nervous system, observing a volcano eruption, or creating structures to withhold earthquakes out of Legos, the students are completely engaged with their learning. Whenever I pick up my students from Ms. C's class, they are bubbling with excitement to share about the new project they started or the fun game they played, but more importantly, they are able to explain in detail all of the science concepts within the different activities and they demonstrate such a strong understanding of the material. My students are always so excited for their science for special day and are so proud to share about their class. Ms. C's own passion and excitement of the field of science continuously fosters and inspires the same love within her students. Phelps students are very lucky to have Ms. C as their science teacher!
