WELCOME TO THE LION'S PRIDE
Prayer for the End of the School Year
God of wisdom,
We thank you for all the gifts
you have given us throughout this school year.
We praise you for giving us life,
for saving us in Christ,
and for choosing us to be your people.
As we come to the end of this school year,
we voice our gratitude for the good things you have done in us,
and we praise you for all who have shared in the work of this school.
We ask you to bless them in your love and give them refreshment and peace.
We praise you, God,
through Jesus Christ, our Lord,
who lives and reigns forever and ever.
Amen.
Administrator's Message
We greet the end of another school year with grateful hearts for the many blessings our Lord has bestowed upon us. Although this year has been unlike any other, we have been blessed in recognizing the value of having each other's company and being together to share our daily adventures. It is hard to believe that Distance Learning will continue for the remaining weeks and we will close this academic year with a “virtual” good bye.
Throughout this unprecedented time, we have been inspired with the exemplary acts of compassion, dedication, work ethic and professionalism of our staff. In addition, we are in awe of the ways we have remained “together and connected” as a school community despite being apart, and thank our beautiful families for your patience, acceptance and support as we have “learned’ these online platforms while balancing the pressures of work and home. We are incredibly proud of our Lions for their adaptability to our new way of learning, perseverance with tech issues, and motivation to work hard. Our Lions rose to the challenge even when the changes came down the pipes fast and furious!
A huge shout out to our Custodial Team, for working tirelessly to keep our school and grounds clean, disinfected, healthy and safe for us all.
We would like to extend our well wishes to the following staff who have been covering long term leaves at St. Daniel Comboni in hopes to see them back again: Ms. McLennan, Mr. Granata and Mr. Sterling. Your hard work and dedication were very much appreciated and you were a great addition to the Faculty of St. Daniel Comboni.
We would like to thank our Pastor, Father Jan Gogolewski and the entire Guardian Angels Parish Team for leading us in Faith celebrations throughout the year. We look forward to celebrating the sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation with our students when it is deemed safe.
We extend our gratitude to our Trustee, Darryl D'Souza, for his continued support of the voices of families in our school community, and the voices of all DPCDSB families for Brampton Wards 2, 5 and 6. Your continued commitment and dedication to Catholic Education is exemplary for all of us.
We extend our profound appreciation to our Superintendent, Les Storey, of the Brampton West Family of schools for his dedication, guidance and support throughout this academic year.
A special thanks to our Catholic School Council under the leadership of chair, Mr. A. Marchao. We thank our members for the many hours of service dedicated to faith, community and fellowship at St. Daniel Comboni.
Lastly, we would like to wish our Grade Eight Graduating class all the best as they venture on to high school. I am confident in our future with these admirable young men and women, knowing that they have the power and will to make a difference in our world. May the gifts of the Holy Spirit guide you and may you look back on your days at St. Daniel Comboni with fond memories, knowing you are loved and will be greatly missed.
Thank you for your kindness and support throughout this extremely challenging year. We have no doubt when we do return, our incredible sense of community will be stronger than ever at St. Daniel Comboni. Please enjoy this summer, savouring in the delights of family, good weather, special hobbies and a whole lot of relaxation.
Please continue to check our Board website: www.dpcdsb.org for any updates on return to school procedures that will be communicated by the Ministry of Education or our Board.
May God continue to bless and keep you and your families safe.
A. Scigliano & S. Salameh

STUDENT TRANSPORTATION
Opt-Out form for Transportation: Please note that STOPR has now created a new online transportation "Opt-Out" form (TFL005). If you do not require your bus seat, completing this form will update the system and allow for others to access the bus. While this form has always been available in hard copy format, we are very pleased to announce that it is now available for parents/guardians to complete online. A link to this form and additional information is posted on the STOPR website (www.STOPR.ca)
PARENTS CORNER
Guardian Angels
When you choose to send your child to a Dufferin-Peel school, we assure you a holistic Catholic education. We do this through…
· Teaching Religious & Family Life education in each grade,
· living our faith daily through prayer, celebration and liturgy,
· building community and “retreat”,
· active involvement in charity and initiatives of social justice from a Catholic context,
· assisting the Guardian Angels Parish team with the preparation of students for the sacraments,
· ensuring everything we do is embedded with Catholic values and content.
Sacraments: At present, First Communion and Confirmation are not able to take place. When larger gatherings are permitted, communication will be shared with parishes regarding these sacraments.
Our school is part of the parish of Guardian Angels Parish. We consider our Pastor, Father Jan Gogolewski to be an integral member of our school community.
Information can be found on the parish website - https://guardianangelsbr.archtoronto.org/
Report Cards
The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board (DPCDSB) will be providing students with their final report cards through the DPCDSB student email accounts by June 25. Please refer to the attachment at the end of the newsletter or the email communication that was sent out recently.
Celebrating the Graduates of 2020
As has been communicated in the past, school graduations where students and their families can physically attend a ceremony may be held in the fall or whenever it is safe to do so. In the meantime, our graduation committee will facilitate the creation of a graduation presentation to be shared with graduates and their families prior to the end of the school year. Awards will not be announced in the graduation presentation. A list of award recipients will be available on our website. When it is safe to hold a graduation ceremony that allows for attendance by students and their families, award winners will be announced and hard copies of awards and certificates will be distributed, including plaques, certificates and medals. Grade 8 students ONLY will have access to the school on June 25th to retrieve and drop off items. At this time, they will be given a graduation gift to take home as well. A Graduation video presentation will be shared in their Google classrooms and will be forthcoming.
Personal Belongings
Drop off of Textbooks/Instruments/Learning Technology Devices
Further to communication that was sent to you recently through School Messenger, the DPCDSB has identified June 29 and/or June 30 as days where schools will be open for a limited time for the return of any textbooks, instruments and learning technology devices (unless the device is required for summer school). In this regard, a follow-up communication will be sent to you by your child’s principal regarding the specific day(s) and times for this drop off to occur at your school.
A reminder that schools are open next week for retrieval of student items and locker contents and this is also an opportunity to drop off the above noted materials as well should they no longer be required.
MOVING?
To help us with our planning for next September, it would be appreciated if you could let us know now if you will be moving out of our school area over the summer. If you know of any families moving into the area with children who plan to attend St. Daniel Comboni, it would be helpful if you could alert us and perhaps let them know that registration can take place online at: www.dpcdsb.org.
The more information we have, the better we are able to organize staff and students for September. In the absence of accurate information, schools often have to reorganize classes in September due to unexpected fluctuations in population.
