Gertie Belle Rogers Elementary
October 2023
A Note From the Principal's Office
Can you believe we are already bidding farewell to the first quarter and stepping into the exciting new beginnings of the second quarter? It's truly incredible to see the vast amounts of growth and enthusiasm in our students during these nine weeks. Their hard work, dedication, and the support from our wonderful teachers and families have made this first quarter a success.
As we turn the page to the second quarter, I want to remind everyone that each day is a chance to learn, grow, and shine. Let's continue to approach our days with curiosity and determination! I have no doubt that the upcoming months will be filled with amazing accomplishments and memorable experiences. Together, we'll make the second quarter even better than the first! Thank you for being part of our incredible school community. Focus in on Fueling Your Ride With Positive Energy this quarter, and remember, "Be The Bean!"
- Mr. Gubbrud
October: Fuel Your Ride With Positive Energy
Fueling your ride with positive energy is like giving your school day a big boost! Just like how a car needs gas to go, we need positivity to keep us moving forward. When you wake up with a smile and a can-do attitude, it's like putting the best kind of fuel in your tank. Positive energy can come from happy thoughts, kind words, and being a good friend. So, remember to fill up your day with positive vibes, and you'll have a smooth ride through school and beyond!

Cozy Coats for Our Community
Gertie Belle Rogers is partnering with our local Nedved Media radio stations, Q107.3, KORN Country 92.1, and KORN News Radio for the Cozy Coats for Our Community drive!
We will be collecting gently used or new coats for people in need. The Caring Closet will be the main beneficiary for the youth sized coats, and any extra adult sized coats will go to the Salvation Army.
There will be a bin inside the front doors of our school to put donated coats into. Please make sure the coats are free of holes and tears and are gently used. Thank you for helping keep the community warm this upcoming Winter season!
Family Reading Engagement Night
The Title Department will be hosting a Family Reading Engagement Night on Tuesday, October 17th from 5:30pm - 7:00pm. Supper will be served promptly at 5:30pm with a short presentation and literacy games to play with your child/ren following. We will have door prizes and a literacy game for each family to take home who attends this event.
We hope to see you there!
Red Ribbon Week
GBR will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week the week of October 23rd through 27th.

School CROSSWALK and PARKING
Parents, it is very important that you talk with your children about using the crosswalk each and every time the cross the street. The crosswalk is in place for the safety of all students, staff, and drivers.
As a reminder to everyone, there is NO PARKING allowed in the indent on the North side of the school. This area is for bus drop off and pick up of students. There is also NO PARKING in front of the school as this area is a DROP OFF zone only.
MSD Caring Closet
Please see the information attached regarding the Caring Closet of Mitchell. While we will post links to upcoming pop-up events, we ask that you follow The Caring Closet on social media to stay up to date on events and ways you can assist the organization.
Nurse's Corner
Notes from Nurse Marlett:
HEAD LICE PREVENTION
*The #1 thing parents should know is that head lice spread directly from one head to another. Head Lice do not fly or jump - instead, they move very quickly from one strand of hair to another.
*Please teach your children that one of the easiest ways to avoid possibly catching head lice is to greet their friends with fist bumps or high fives. Hugs and side hugs should be avoided.
*Children with longer hair may wish to wear their hair up in a ponytail or in braids. This keeps the hair from hanging loose and making possible contact with the hair of classmates.
*Parents may opt to put a few drops of tea tree oil in shampoo, and/or use a rosemary scented leave-in conditioner on their children. These are great, safe prevention options as Head Lice do not like these scents.
*Children should not share brushes, combs, ribbons, head bands, hats, coats, etc.
