Senior Experience

The Senior Experience is a graduation requirement that seniors in the classic South program fulfill if they are not completing a CTE Project, IOP CAM or a CALCI program. Each student completing a Senior Experience is required to complete a Junior Project, Junior Interview, Senior Interview, as well as Career Related Learning Experiences (CRLEs). CRLEs are activities that occur in the community, in a workplace, or within school, that connect classroom learning with the paths students might follow after graduating. We encourage you to pick an experience that connects your academic knowledge and specialized skills to your individual career plan.

If our records indicate you will be completing a Senior Experience you will be expected to attend one of the following Senior Experience Showcase Events below. If you received an email with this newsletter than our records indicate that you are someone that we expect to present. If you need help with this requirement please talk to your counselor during one of the drop-in times, see below. It is best to attend the Senior Experience Showcase nearest to the completion of your display board, see below for details. It's up to you when you present. The Showcase events are scheduled for:

• Thursday, February 20th during Advisory, 10:10-10:45
  
• Tuesday, February 25th during Advisory, 10:10-10:45
  
• Wednesday, March 12th after School, 2:40-3:25
• Friday, April 18th, Time To Be Determined
  

Please report to the SEHS Cafeteria with your display board or slideshow and expect to present and listen to two other presentations as part of the showcase event which takes approximately 45 minutes. You will not be permitted to leave early.

If you are completing a CTE Project, IOP CAM or are in a CALCI program please complete this Senior Project Indicator google form here or linked below so we can update our records.

We would like you to have experiences that relate to your plans after high school and ones that you enjoy. These experiences are called Career Related Learning Experiences (CRLEs). Below we offer some resources to find CRLE opportunities. You do not need to be preapproved or tell us the CRLEs you plan to complete so go ahead and identify your interest and get started. Choose from the options below that add up to a approximately ten hours. Of course you can do more if you desire. Please check the Class of 2025 Website Newsletter for resources to connect with CRLEs.

Creating a visual display to present at the Senior Experience Showcase is your final piece and opportunity to share what you did and what you gained from your experience(s). After you complete your final CRLE experience you will create a display board or slideshow that highlights your experience(s). You will present to a small group of your peers and possibly parents, and/or community members. Attendees will meet you, see your display and have the opportunity to ask questions about your experience(s).

Each senior will be assigned to a Senior Experience Showcase date, see above. Presenters will set up their poster board or slideshow and present their experience, for roughly 10 minutes to 2-3 other seniors and community members. The 2-3 audience members will evaluate the presentation on the following:

• Is the visual aid well done? Does it cover the learning and activities the presenter completed?
• Did the experience lead to new learning for the presenter?
• Did the presenter explain if they enjoyed or found their activity/activities meaningful?
• Did the present explain how the activities provided insight on their post high school plans?

After presenting, the presenter will rotate roles with another senior until everyone has presented. Presenters will complete and turn in a "Showcase Reflection" at the end of the showcase.
