SMS Weekly Update

On behalf of myself and my staff, we are so glad to have all of our students back in our building for another school year! While yesterday's drop-off traffic created a challenge right at the start, I would like to thank all of you for your patience and understanding as we worked to immediately correct the issues we observed.

We had a much better start this morning, and my team and I will continue to monitor both drop-off and pick-up times going into next week to determine all needed adjustments, in collaboration with the Sherwood Police Department and the District Office. If you have questions regarding the drop-off or pick-up process, please don't hesitate to reach out to our school office.

The building was full of excitement as we welcomed our new students and held some fun school assemblies to kick off the school year. We are off to a great start!

Front Office Hours: 7:30 am - 3:45pm

Student Hours: 8:45 am - 3:26 pm (Except on scheduled Early Release days)

Doors Open to Students: 8:30 am (Main Entrance and Activities Entrance)

Wednesdays: 2:26 pm Dismissal (beginning on Sept. 13th)

The District will have one-hour Early Release days each Wednesday throughout the 2023-2024 school year beginning on September 13th. Please refer to the 2023-2024 District Calendar for the scheduled Early Release days. Dismissal for those days will be at 2:26 pm.

As we begin the school year, it is important for our students and families to understand the expectations for how students will behave while at school. Positive student behavior plays a big role in avoiding disruptions or distractions to learning, and is an important part of being a member of our school community. Please take time to review this year's student behavior expectations (found our on website at the link below) and discuss them with your child.

September 8th

School pictures will take place throughout the day during student's Science classes.

Scan the QR code below or visit mydorian.com, search for your school, and click on the green "Order" button or yellow "Help" button associated with your picture day.

You can order online now and for up to four (4) days after picture day.

Here are some helpful tips to make picture day great!

• Schedule haircuts 7-10 days prior to picture day!
• Wear simple clothing. Solid shirts or small patterns, along with sleeves, photograph best. A simple collared shirt is a timeless classic.

• Avoid logos and text on clothing. Graphics or wording may not photograph completely and can become partially cropped out of your picture.

Photo packets will also be distributed in class prior to picture day.
