Ask your child...

Have you ever asked your student how his/her day was and you get one word answers? Use these questions to ask specific questions about the week and get him/her talking!

Questions for this past week:

Science 6 - How does energy change on a roller coaster ride?
SS7 - What is the difference between a physical feature and human feature? What's an example of each?
English Language Arts (ELA) 6 - Tell me about the new novel you started in ELA.
SS6 - (both this past week and this upcoming week) - Tell me about one of the ancient Eastern Religions and Philosophies: Hinduism, Buddhism, & Confucianism.
Science 7 - Give an example of energy and matter.

Questions for this upcoming week:

English Language Arts (ELA) 7 - What is your hobby and why is it important?
Math 7 - How is subtracting like adding a negative number?
Math 6 - How can graphs be used to show ratio relationships?
ALL STUDENTS - The first nine weeks ends this Thursday, do you have all of your assignments turned in? Let's look at your grades together - get out your Chromebook and pull them up for me.
Choir 7 - This week we are switching to the text on a couple of songs. What is the text and how would you summarize it in your own words?

News from PTO

PTO’s Help a Hero fundraiser (the one and only fundraiser of the year) kicked off last week. Envelopes and flyers were sent home with each student, so check backpacks if you haven’t seen it! Each student is encouraged to ask family, friends, and neighbors to support HMS! Great, fun prizes are only available to fundraiser participants! Donations can be made online at the link below, in cash, or with a check made out to Hellstern Middle School PTO. All money must be turned in by Thursday, October 13!

Fundraiser for Girls Basketball

Now taking pre-orders for foam trucker hats! Proceeds from sales benefit Hellstern 7th Grade Girls Basketball. Pre-orders can be made now through October 12th. Please be sure to include your first and last name, telephone number and email address in the description box. We hope to receive all orders by the end of October. Once received, we will reach out to you by email to arrange for pick up. Thank you for your support!

From Mrs. Huffman...

Thank you all for the opportunity to have fun with the band kids on 10/4. I heard many kids saying how glad they were that they are in band. It was nice seeing them bond with kids within their band who are in different instrument classes. The concert was amazing. They kept the students' attention for 2 hours with lots of comedy and fun songs mixed in.

Boys Basketball Fundraiser

New Rules - help us out!

We talked with students on Friday about the following:

Students are tardy if they are not in their seats at 8:05 ready to learn. First block starts at 8:05.
Due to vandalism and issues with gum - we are no longer allowing gum in our building. Thanks for your help with this.
Students may not carry any kind of bag/purse with them during the day. Students can carry binders, water bottles, and Chromebooks. All other bags go in his/her locker.
For everyone's safety, students should not be playing with footballs or any kind of ball when they are outside during arrival or dismissal.
