Thank you to all those who have already contributed. If you haven't yet please remember the following:

Shannon Zellmer will be helping to coordinate our basket. She would like all the items before Thanksgiving if possible. Based on the number she gave me if everyone contributed just $5, we would have more than enough to cover our costs. If you are donating money, please send it in addressed to her. Our classes theme is sports. No particular teams, just sports in general. Please sign up for an item on sign up genius to help us from duplicating items.

O'Holly Night Basket Sign-Up Genius

It is right around the corner. I encourage everyone to come out. I plan to be there with my family. I also encourage everyone to purchase tickets in advance. If you are sending in money for tickets please label it with my name, your child's name, and O'Holly Night Tickets. We will get it to the PTA. Please make sure your child turns it in to my hand and not a basket or bin on my desk to ensure it is taken care of quickly.

We will have a parent meeting on January 18th for Blue Jay Point (BJP). If you plan to attend this overnight trip you must get the information at this meeting. Please make sure that you have registered to volunteer before we trackout to ensure that you are cleared to come with us on our trip in April. It take 6-8 weeks sometimes to get approval.

We will be going outside daily as long as the weather permits. It is getting colder and the weather changes dramatically. Please make sure your child comes to school with a coat and other proper winter weather attire.

Conference will begin after Thanksgiving. This will give some time to assess your child's work and see them work on the 2nd quarter standards. If you need something addressed prior to this, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Reading

We will begin reading Woods Runner and write main ideas about the time period to help us with our group projects. We will be working on comparing and contrasting two pieces of writing. Students will continue to work on their outlines for their group projects. Please help your by providing time at home for them to research and work on the outline.

Writing

Students will select a topic that they are passionate about to begin researching to brainstorm for their next opinion piece. This piece will be due before Christmas break. We will be working on making a pro and con list of all the resources that we have read. We will then begin to make our 3 major points to outline our paper.

Math

Students will work on multiplying decimals. At our current rate I anticipate that we will have a quiz on this on December 6th.

Social Studies

Students will continue to work on USA Weekly 13 to help them with their project based assignment.

Science

Students will work on reviewing topics that effect weather to include elevation. They will look at the water cycle and how the ocean water circulates. If there is time this week, we will work on understanding El Nino and La Nina.
