SEIZE THE DAY WITH NEWSIES JR. AT GOODING HIGH SCHOOL
Disney’s NEWSIES JR.
Playing at Gooding High School
Disney’s Newsies JR. is playing at Gooding High School from April 13th through April 15th at 7 PM. The inspiring 60-minute musical, designed for middle school-aged performers, is based on the 1992 Disney film Newsies and the 2012 Broadway production of the same name. The Gooding Musical Production cast includes 30 students led by Mitchell Tilley and Lori Goodman.
It’s time to carry the banner with Disney’s Newsies JR.! You’ll be doing flips for the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of young newsies in Manhattan. When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsies’ expense, Jack rallies young workers from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what's right! Adapted especially for young performers, this musical features a Tony Award®-winning score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award®-winner Harvey Fierstein, and includes rousing songs like “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” and “King of New York.” Newsies JR. is packed with non-stop thrills and a timeless message perfect for the whole family and every audience.
Tickets can be purchased at the door each night for $10 per person or $35 for a family.
Disney’s Newsies JR. is presented through special arrangement with and all materials are provided by Music Theatre International. For more information about licensing Newsies JR. or other Disney shows, please visit www.DisneyMusicals.com.
The Gooding Musical Production course began in 2022 as an extension of drama and other musical offerings at Gooding High School. Last year, the Gooding Musical Production class performed three very successful showings of Willy Wonka Jr. Due to the success of that show, the Musical Production course was offered again this school year. This class is excited to perform Disney’s Newsies Jr. for our community and families. We hope you can join us!

Glanbia Nutritional Donates Cheese to U of I Vandal Food Pantry
Gooding Nutritional (GN) recently donated 2,000 lbs of cheese to the University of Idaho Vandal Food Pantry to help students on campus who experience food insecurity. GN strives to provide nutrition through ingredients - 'delivering better nutrition for every step of life's journey'.
"I think as we head into economic headwinds, it's important that we continue to supply nutritional products to the student population as we continue to partner with the University of Idaho. And who doesn't love cheese!" states W. Costello, Chief Commercial Officer of Cheese and Marketing at GN.
According to the University of Idaho's National College Health Assessment, nearly half of U of I students experience food insecurity. More than a third reported in the last 30 days that they skipped a meal because they couldn't afford it. The Pantry's mission is to allow students to focus on their studies and work without the burden of food insecurity.
"The Vandal Food Pantry has been a tremendously valuable resource for our students with food security issues and a big part of that is the great generosity from our community and partners like Glanbia. Their donation is crucial to our community, and we cannot thank them enough for being part of our student's educational success," states Vice Provost for Student Affairs, Blaine Eckles.
The Vandal Food Pantry has been opened in various forms for 10 years while partnering with the Idaho Food Bank and other community partners. The physical location opened in March and is open Monday - Friday from 8 am - 7 pm and is open to the entire community while staffed primarily by students on campus.
The Vandal Food Pantry offers different services. You can contact the pantry with any questions about their services at foodpantry@uidaho.edu or 208-885-6078.

Glanbia Idaho Supports Local Mental Health Foundation
Members of the Glanbia team in Twin Falls, Idaho recently spent and evening at Jae's Place being recognized as one of their Circle of Boots supporters.
The Jae Foundation's goal is to raise awareness for mental health and suicide prevention while also providing healing for those that have lost loved ones. This is done through a simple platform with cowboy boots. With every pair of boots comes a conversation that would have never happened, a Boot-Check moment that we all need.
This foundation is going to be such a vital addition to the community in Idaho and we look forward to the many lives that will be changed!

It is tax time, which brings about a rise in scams from callers claiming to be the IRS, banks, creditors, or even a sector of the government. DO NOT BE FOOLED. The IRS, or any other businesses and agencies will contact you by mail if there is an issue. Nearly every scam in use follows the same pattern, and is much like Phishing attempts on your computer. They want you to take quick action and provide them with your personal information such as account numbers, passwords, pictures of documents like your driver’s license, etc. They will tell the victim that failure to follow their directions will result in a number of things up to and including arrest as a scare tactic. Should the caller want you to pay for something with a gift card, this should be an automatic red flag of a scam. Other methods are for the victim to cash a check, keep a portion of it and return a check, or gift cards to the scammer. Usually this ends with the original check being fake and the victim charged for the amount of the check. If you feel you need to follow through with such directions, please contact a published number of the company or agency calling you (from your records or from a known phone directory or website) not a phone number provided by them. Even in Gooding victims are losing thousands of dollars to these scams.
Spring is finally here and I would like remind everyone to clear their yards of unwanted appliances or other rubbish. If your neighbor seems to have no way to take care of theirs, see if you can be of assistance. The city should have a spring clean-up day upcoming and the tree and brush yard will be open soon. Any lumber will have to go to the transfer station near Wendell. Some may not wish to use the transfer station as they feel there is a fee to do so. In most cases, this is not the case with the exception of certain items like refrigerators, freezers, tires, or large items, like a hot tub. They do accept nearly everything else to include motor oils, paints, batteries, and construction waste, such as concrete.
Message from Mayor Diane Houser
Hello Gooding,
The first day of spring was March 20th but with snow continuing to fall it doesn't seem like it will be here anytime soon. March has been cold; I hope April gets warmer so we can begin planting flowers and gardens.
March 17th the City of Gooding hosted the Capital for a Day. We had a wonderful turn out. Governor Brad Little came with 18 people from his Administrative Staff. There were approximately 80 citizens from the community that attended to ask questions and express concerns about different things going on throughout Idaho. Thank you to Stampede Burger for catering the event and to the girls in the office for setting up the event.
Our Public Works Water/Sewer Department has done it once again in the State of Idaho. They have won the Wastewater System of the Year award for 2023. They also received the Flushed Finds for 2023 award.
Below is the article submitted to win the Flushed Finds Award.
As a sewer collection system, the City of Gooding has come across some very interesting finds. Many of these finds are not in good taste.
In light of keeping this in line with being a "G" rated fun event we will discuss a happy ending story.
The City of Gooding crew was cleaning dead end sewer lines one afternoon. At the end of the day they went and unloaded the truck and cleaned it up. While cleaning the sewer vac truck they noticed a ring laying in the pile of waste. It was a Gooding senior class ring! We posted the ring on social media hoping someone would recognize it.
Within a few days the owner came to claim the ring. He mentioned that his ex flushed it down the toilet.
He never expected to see his ring ever again. He was really excited and happy to have his ring back.
This find just shows that some things in life may be thrown away but they may not be lost forever...
Great job to the Public Works Water/Sewer crew, you did a great job! Can't wait to see what you do next year.
Gooding City Tree & Brush Yard
The City Tree & Brush Yard will be opening soon (weather permitting). There are a few changes that citizens need to remember.
The Tree & Brush Yard is only open to citizens that live within city limits. Proof of address will be required; either by driver's license, vehicle registration or city utility bill. These changes have taken place due to the City funding the Yard from the sanitation fund. County residents will need to take their lawn clippings, tree branches, etc. to the Gooding County Landfill Station in Wendell.
