
Classrooms Compete For Grand Prize
MrsP.com 5th Annual Be-a-Famous Writer Finalists Announced
18 states entered K-4 writing contest. NC and Iowa had most classrooms entered
This year the theme was magic and the contest was open to K-4 classrooms. Teachers could have their class write a story as a collaborative project or vote on a story written by a student to represent their classroom. 5 schools are now competing for the grand prize which will be announced on January 15th live at 10:30 cst with Mrs. P thanks to Teacher/Librarian Shannon McClintock Miller from Van Meter Community School in Iowa. Now the drum roll please...Meet the Finalist
Finalists in no particular order!
1. A Magical Gift - Mrs. Braum’s 4th Grade class from Van Meter Community School in Iowa. There was one story voted on by the class to represent this 4th grade.
2. My Magic App - Mrs. Alicea’s 3rd Grade Class from WJ Gurganus Elementary in Havelock, NC submitted this story as a collaborative class project.
3. The Day I Shrunk - Audra Kimball’s 4th grade class from Saint Paul Elementary in AR voted on a students story to submit.
4. David, The Kind Wizard - Matt Slayton’s 3rd Grade at Mallard Creek Elementary in Charlotte, NC had one students story representing his class.
5. My Incredible Home - From Mrs. Cohen's 3rd Grade class at David Posnack Jewish Day School in Davie, FL. The entire class wrote individual stories and this one was chosen to submit.

Special certificates will be sent to these teachers for their classroom by January 15th.
- The Bunny and the Magic Hat wins The Beatrix Potter Award for the most charming story starring a rabbit. This was a collaborative project from Gail Mercurio’s 1st Grade at Albemarle Road Elementary in Charlotte, NC.
- The Gold Pond wins The Story Most Like Something the Brothers Grimm Would’ve Written If They Were Still Alive (and thank goodness they’re not because they would be over 200 years old and would probably look AWFUL) Award. This story was submitted by Miss Mitchell's 4th Grade Technology Class from Holy Angels Regional School in Patchogue NY. All the students in the 4th Grade wrote stories, and this one was voted the best by the class.
- Carlos The Magic Car wins The Story I’d Most Like to Listen to as an Audio Book on a Road Trip Award. This story was submitted as a collaborative class project from Mrs. Seamer’s Kindergarten Class at Pleasant View Elementary in Bettendorf, Iowa.
- Sparkle the Horse wins The Story I’d Most Like to Listen to as an Audio Book on a Trail Ride Award. This story was submitted by Heather Suckow’s 4th grade class at Howard Winn School in Cresco, Iowa. It was voted on by the class and then was polished up by a group of girls.
- Do you believe in Magic wins The Coolest Story Honoring the Coolest People - Teachers! Award. This entry was voted on by the class to represent Laura Mayle’s 4th grade class from River Gate Elementary in Charlotte, NC.
