Congratulations to all high school solo and ensemble participants! The students represented Centerburg well and brought home almost all Superior and Excellent Ratings! I am so proud of what they accomplished!

This concert will feature all of the choral ensembles from Centerburg Middle and High School. This is our second year to do this and it was a huge success last year and the idea for the theme of this concert has been with me since last year.

This year's theme is "Because..." based on the book of the same title by Mo Willems. The concert will feature student essays and artwork related to the theme as well as music that represents why we sing.

Because of rehearsal time with our new accompanist Call Time for ALL STUDENTS is 4:30pm for a pre-concert run-through.

I recently attended the Ohio Music Education Association Professional Development Conference. While there I participate in a session called "Super Scary Performance Assessments that Students Love." There was a demonstration group from a school in Akron where they showed how they would all perform a segment of a song and then they would divide into smaller ensembles and perform that segment for the class and then the students would provide positive and constructive feedback.

We tried this last week with the 7th and 8th Grade choirs and the HS choir. I was amazed at the way that the students spoke to each other with about musical proficiency using musical terminology. They were all so encouraging with each other. We talked about how this strategy holds them all accountable and causes them to all take ownership in the ensemble. My favorite moment from the day was when the last group in the 8th grade choir ended up being smaller than all of the rest, and pretty much everyone in the whole class volunteered to sing with them and to help them out! It was such a sweet moment.

I always tell the choirs that I want them to be independent music makers, so this new strategy for assessment was a great way to give them more ownership as well. I look forward to continuing to grow and shape this new teaching tool.

Come one come all to this year's production of The Music Man! Students have been working hard preparing the show and it's coming up in 6 short weeks! Mark your calendar March 20 and 21 at 7:30 and March 22 at 2:30!

The 7th and 8th Grade Band and Choir will be participating in the Trills and Thrills Festival at King's Island on May 16. An informational flier and permission slip paper should have both come home with your middle school student.

While there, we will perform 2 pieces for judges and receive a rating and after that we will spend the rest of the day at the theme park. The cost to participate is $50 and can be split into two payments of $25 on March 6th and April 17th.
