Career Awareness in March
This month Swanton and Northwood elementary explored the Architecture and Construction Cluster while Eastwood, Lake, and Dorr Elementary finished Part II of the Human Services Cluster. I was able to observe Lake Middle School Counselor teaching part 2 of the Human Services Cluster Kit to see her spin on the fun lesson. Woodland Elementary invited us to participate in their Career Day. Our Penta Student Ambassadors came to help and talk about all the fun options Penta Career Center has to offer while participating in a preview of all of the career kit activities. Otsego Elementary signed on this month to participate in a preview lesson of all of the kits we have to offer and the students had a blast. They were able to explore 12 activities based on six of the career clusters.
A special thank you to to Mrs. Howard at Woodmore Middle School for creating a worksheet that helps students connect their YouScience results to the programs they explored at the 8th Grade Expo. We were able to use that in Mrs. Metzger's careers class at Rossford Junior High before they went out to the Expo.
Career Awareness is all about early exposure to a multitude of different careers. Through these lessons, students have been exposed to many occupations, some they have never heard of.
Check out all the fun in the pictures below and an update the amazing things Mrs. May is teaching in her Career Connections Class at Otsego Junior High.

MEMBER SCHOOL SPOTLIGHT
Otsego Elementary 2nd Graders
Otsego did not want to miss out on this opportunity this year, so we decided on a career kit preview of all of our lessons in one day! We read, "There's a Hat for That," by Kevin Fleming and students were able to try out twelve of our career kit activities from six of the career kits.
Mrs. May's Career Connections 8th Graders
Otsego Junior High 8th graders exploring the amazing programs Penta has to offer at the 8th Grade Expo.
Otsego Elementary 8th graders began exploring the Architecture & Construction Cluster this month. They enjoyed soldering electrical wire together to make jewelry, used PVC piping to make a marble run, mixed concrete for stepping stones and explored the ins and outs of three different electrical kits, and are making their own batteries using pennies to make light up wands.
Mrs. May's Career Connection 7th Graders
The 7th graders at Otsego Junior High just finished exploring careers in the Hospitality and Tourism Cluster. Some of the various activities they did were: creating travel brochures, designed "new" exhibits for attractions, learned proper table settings and fancy napkin folds, made homemade soap with various essential oils of their choice for a vacation rental, used Google Earth to create a walking tour of their hometown, and planned a vacation for a "client" with a given budget.
