Dear Hyde-Addison ES Families,

Have an amazing winter break! We look forward to seeing everyone in the new year.

Thank you to all families and staff who participated in the hats, scarves and gloves drive. We exceeded our goal and collected 334 items to be donated to families in need.

As a reminder, Hyde-Addison is a nut-free school. It is suggested that families who send in snacks do so in alignment with the Local Wellness Policy (see pages 14-15). Families who send in food or snacks to be shared with other students may alert the school community to the snacks that they plan to provide by posting to their class Konstella account, so that is viewable by parents.

“The 2023 DC School Report Card is built on OSSE’s amended ESSA State Plan, which increases the school accountability system’s emphasis on student growth and marginalized student groups. The school accountability system will also see returning metrics that were not available during the coronavirus (COVID-19) health emergency such as ACCESS growth and student growth on the math and ELA assessments, as well as introduce new metrics such as high school student growth, five-year graduation rate and AP/IB/Dual Enrollment participation.”

In short, the DC Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) has released the 2023 DC School Report Card, which scores and rates schools in various areas, including academic achievement, academic growth, attendance and enrollment.

Based on this data, Hyde-Addison ES was ranked #2 for all DCPS Elementary Schools.

When the temperature or climate determines that indoor arrival is necessary, the field will not be available for family supervised play at 8:00am and students will be asked to go directly to the cafeteria/gym at 8:10am.

At dismissal time, families should go to the building door (from the playground) to give their child's name to the staff member at the door beginning at 3:20pm so that they can be sent down to that door, directly. At 3:30pm, remaining students will be taken to the main entrance to be picked up from late dismissal and all other building doors will be closed.

Each year, DCPS asks all families to complete the Impact Aid survey to generate additional federal funds for DCPS. The surveys will be fully electronic using the Seamless platform.

As another calendar year comes to a close, we wanted to take a moment to thank our school community for their incredible generosity this year. Together, we've made tremendous progress toward our overall fundraising goal of $98,000 to help close the gap between the school's operating budget and the amount provided by DCPS. These funds have been used to purchase instructional materials and cover education services and professional development for the incredible teachers and staff who spend their days with our children. Whether you bought supplies through the back to school drive in August, donated to the Great Envelope Race, ordered Hyde swag, contributed or volunteered at Movie Night, sold or purchased popcorn, or attended a PTA event, your support has made a tremendous difference and for that we are grateful. Thank you!

We have some exciting things in the works for 2024, including the return of the Hyde-Addison Gala (more on that below!) but as always if you have suggestions for events or activities, please don't hesitate to reach out via Konstella or email us at pta.hydeaddison@gmail.com.

The PTA is bringing back the annual Hyde-Addison Gala and we need your help! Do you have an idea for a venue that can hold approximately 100 guests? Do you know a caterer, DJ, furniture rental, band, etc that would provide services at a discounted rate? In addition to ideas we are looking for volunteers to help plan and run the event. Email Tami (tami.twyman@gmail.com) or join the Gala committee in Konstella! We’re hoping to begin regular planning meetings next month.

School ends at 3:25pm and students are late being picked up after 3:30pm. Please be reminded that early dismissal ends at 2:50pm and we must clear the field for aftercare students to use.
