Renaissance/RAWR
Our Renaissance leadership class has taken the lead on recognizing the positive attributes and behaviors we wish to instill in all our students. As was written about in an earlier Panther Prowl, the RAWR behaviors we are recognizing in our students are:
- Respectful: Panthers honor the worth and value of themselves and others
- Accountable: Panthers strive to take ownership of their actions and success
- Well-Connected:Panthers are actively involved in their education and school community
- Resilient: Panthers bounce back from difficult experiences and mistakes
Below is a link to a student-produced video released on October 4th to help promote RAWR on our campus. I am requesting that you have a conversation with your own student about how s/he displays these behaviors, not only at school, but in everyday life.

UNITY
- October is a very busy month with Breast Cancer Awareness and our next UNITY campaign, Anti-Bullying. Our UNITY leaders will be trying to “Scare the Hate Away” by offering a Boo Gram for purchase. Boo Grams are either $1 or $2 depending on the contents students wish to include (i.e., extra candy, a longer message, glitter, etc). The Boo Grams will read: “Don’t be a boo-ly, Be a buddy.” They will be sold during both lunches from October 22nd through the 30th and will be delivered on the 31st during 4th period.
- On October 24th we will host UNITY Day! Students are encouraged to wear orange or stop by I-3 for some orange spirit paint! During both lunches we will be doing a UNITY Day Tree Activity where all students and clubs are encouraged join in. Students will be writing empowering and encouraging words on wonderful orange maple leaves and placing them on our tree to unite ourselves together for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. Students can take pictures with the tree and #UNITYDAY2018.
- On Halloween UNITY leaders will make a spooky back drop available to take spooky Polaroids with all their friends for only $1.
- Red Ribbon Week will be recognized the week of October 23rd through the 31st. More information will follow shortly...
Bullying Prevention Month
October is National Bullying Prevention Month. It is a campaign by PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center started in 2006. It unites communities nationwide to inform, educate, and raise awareness of bullying prevention. National Bullying Prevention Month is recognized in communities across the United States, with many schools and organizations supporting and signing as partners. More than one out of every five (20.8%) students report being bullied (National Center for Educational Statistics, 2016). The federal government began collecting data on school bullying in 2005, when the prevalence of bullying was around 28 percent (U.S. Department of Education, 2015).
- Bullied students reported that bullying occurred in the following places: the hallway or stairwell at school (42%), inside the classroom (34%), in the cafeteria (22%), outside on school grounds (19%), on the school bus (10%), and in the bathroom or locker room (9%) (National Center for Educational Statistics, 2016).
- 43% of bullied students report notifying an adult at school about the incident. Students who report higher rates of bullying victimization are more likely to report the bullying (National Center for Educational Statistics, 2016).
Corona Norco Unified School District does not tolerate bullying. #CNUSDisKind - #CNUSDitTakesaVillage is an anti-bullying and school safety social media campaign aimed at fostering a safe school environment, reducing stigma, spreading positivity, and encouraging students to be kind to one another. The goal is to challenge students, parents, staff, and the community to participate in simple random acts of kindness. Students and staff are encouraged to share their stories of kindness via social media using the hashtag #CNUSDisKind and/or #CNUSDitTakesaVillage

ASB/Activities
Got ASB?
A great way for your child to have a better high school experience is by getting him/her involved in any of extracurricular activities and events. An ASB card provides opportunities throughout the year for our students get involved while saving money. This little card can very well end up saving $$$ over the course of the year and can even pay for itself after only a few uses. Here are some of the perks:
- FREE admission to ALL home sporting events, excluding CIF playoffs (these are never free); that's a savings of at least $125
- Discounts on ALL dances and events (including the Performing Arts); that's another savings of at least $30
- FREE athletic patches and inserts (patches cost $20 without an ASB card and inserts cost $5); that's a potential savings of at least $25
- FREE giveaways on GOT ASB? Days
- ASB Cards can be purchased for $40 in the Student Store, but students receive benefits valued at approximately $200 (maybe even more as new activities get added to the calendar throughout the year)
- On our last Got ASB? Day on September 27th, all students who showed their ASB card received free nachos during both lunches
Athletics
- Football: Join us for our annual Pink Out Game as we host Centennial High School at home on October 5th. Our current record is 3-3 as we seek our first Big VIII league victory. Let's go, Panthers!

Sophomore Victor Ceja placed 10th and Senior Israel Echeverria placed 12 out of over 383 athletes. Senior Bradley Corey had an awesome race as well as sophomore Stephanie Rocco. The team is preparing for the second league meet next Wednesday at Andulka Park in Riversid.
