TIME OF THANKSGIVING
During this time of Thanksgiving, we have so much to be thankful for as we have completed first quarter, recently celebrated red ribbon week, successful fundraiser, book fair and the opportunity to work with outstanding students! Currently they are working hard on giving back to the community by hosting a Food drive and plans are underway for ringing of bells in December.
We could not do any of this without you! Your ongoing support is welcomed and sincerely appreciated!
If you ever have any questions, concerns or we can be of help in any way you are always welcome to contact us. We appreciate the opportunity to work with you and your child/children.
Have a Peaceful and Enjoyable Thanksgiving! May you and your families stay safe and well.
Sincerely,
5th and 6th Grade Center Admin Team:
Susan Long, Russ Dial, and Michelle Gilmer
NINE HOUSES- ONE FAMILY
CONGRATULATIONS MERAKI! Winning House for October with 1011 points. It's a new quarter and fresh start for everyone!
HOUSE CHAMPIONS:
After first quarter, students have the opportunity to complete an application to become a Champion for their House. A House Champion is someone who exemplifies the PRO Leader standard (peaceful, respectful, outstanding) as well as all of the character words that our Houses signify (responsibility, respect, grit, integrity, effort, caring, patience, courage, and honesty). The application requires a written response to three questions. The application must be signed by all of the student's teachers and an administrator, signifying their recommendation of the student for House Champion. Once the application is turned in, the staff members in the House will review the application and determine if they will award the title of House Champion. A student can apply to be House Champion any time during the year. House Champions are recognized in the monthly House meeting and have a special banner placed next to their House Shield.
LIBRARY CORNER
First a huge thank you to our students and parents for making our modified Book Fair a success! Our students are becoming pros at being online shoppers! We had many students participate in our art contest and each classroom had a winner in our attendance drawing. All winners were able to purchase the books they wanted with their winnings. And most importantly, we were able to get many new books for our school library, such as Hide and Seeker, I Survived the Shark Attacks of 1916, Dog Man: Grime and Punishment, The Baby-Sitters Club: Logan Likes Mary Anne! and the brand new this week Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Deep End! They will be flying off the shelves soon!
Speaking of library shelves, did you know that you and your child can browse the library from the comfort of your home? Our library is online and can be found by visiting the library page at our school’s website or by clicking on the QR code in the picture above or by direct link here: https://search.follettsoftware.com/metasearch/ui/5563 Students can log in to Destiny and put the book they want to get on hold and then pick it up from our library when it is ready.
And if they are looking for something to read right this minute, we have many e-books and audiobooks that are available 24/7. We have a wide variety including several of this year’s Mark Twain Nominees. It’s a great way to get at least four of them read by March 1st in order to be eligible to vote for which one will win the award!
A question that is often asked is “Does the library have this book? I want to make sure it is an AR (Accelerated Reader) book?” The response is that it doesn’t matter if the book is part of our library collection or not. If there is an AR test available for it, then it is an AR book. Whether it comes from our library, the public library, it was a gift, found at a yard sale, or an e-book, it doesn’t matter. If you would like to find out if a book your child has read is an AR book, you can see if there is a test for it by going to www.arbookfind.com and typing in the title or/or author. If there is a match, it’s an AR book!
Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving break and until next time….
