The B.Y.E. Buzz
August 22
Week of August 22
Wow! We had an amazing first week at Young Elementary! So many smiles, team building activities, and making new friends. We look forward to a great year.
- We appreciate your patience with our car line. Like each year, drop-off and pick-up will continue to get more efficient and move faster. Thank you for understanding.
- We apologize for our change in the lunch menu this past week. We do have a food service position open. See more information at the bottom of this newsletter.
- Do you need to add lunch money or complete the meal form? Scan or click here to do either. You can complete the meal form as a guest. If you need your child's student ID number to add lunch money, please email Stephanie Mounce at smounce@sdale.org
- Last day to order PTA shirts is Sunday (8/21). See below.
Updated AUA
Exciting News- We have new Chromebooks this year! Due to new technology in our building and district, the Technology Device Protection Plan has had a slight increase. Please see updated AUA.

4th/5th Grade Young Elementary Cross Country Team 22-23
We will be sponsoring a Cross Country Team again this year!
Young Cross Country will meet Tuesdays after school from 3:15- 3:45pm beginning after Labor Day. Cost will be $5 for the races (covers all 3) and $8 for the shirt. The application for the team will go home with students on Monday. We can take up to 50 students and this will be based on return date. Please see information below for how to sign up for the actual races. Parents will provide transportation to the races.
Mini-Wild Dog Races are back
Har-Ber & Springdale High School will be hosting our 6th Annual Mini-Wild Dog XC Races this year!!
Races will begin at 4:15 on the following days:
Wednesday, 9/21 @ Har-Ber High
Wednesday, 10/12 @ Sonora Middle School
Wednesday, 10/26 @ Sonora Middle School
Entry fees are $5 which covers ALL three race days!
Coach Mitchell or the office will have entry forms! You can also print from here. We had lots of runners last year and won some awards. Let's get more this year! The best option is to return forms/money to school so that we can sign your child up in advance. *Parents provide transportation and supervision at the race*
đđArrival and Dismissal Procedures
To help our car line run more efficiently, please follow maps below. In the morning, students can enter the building at the front or side of the school. In the afternoon, Kindergarten/1st grade and their siblings will exit out the front while 2nd-5th graders will exit out the side.
A few reminders:
- Please have your car tag ready at pick-up.
- Enter the school off of Pippin Apple Circle. To keep traffic moving, do not turn off of Carver or Elizabeth streets.
- It is not safe to park on the side street and have your student walk to the car. All students leaving the school in a car should exit through our car line.
We understand that families have places to be after school and we promise the line will get quicker.
Notes from Mrs. Nelson, School Counselor
Here are some helpful tips to make mornings easier for you and your child(ren)!
Make sure everyone is getting enough sleep.
Adjust bedtimes and wake up times if needed.
Prepare the night before.
Plan breakfast, pack lunches, choose clothes
Have a designated area in your house for backpacks, shoes, lunchbox, etc.
Get up before your child(ren)
This gives you some quiet time before you have to wake them and gets you prepared for your day. When parents are calm, kids will most likely be as well.
Make a morning routine chart/checklist. Include visuals for the younger children.
Brushing teeth, combing hair, washing face, getting dressed, eating breakfast, putting on shoes, grabbing backpack/lunchbox, head out the door.
This helps your child become self-sufficient and learn routines.
Use the âWhen...Thenâ approach if needed.
When you finish brushing your hair and putting your clothes on, then we will eat breakfast.
Remain calm and connected.
Children can sense when you are rushed/stressed and they tend to mirror your actions and tone. When you start to get stressed, get down on their level and explain to them why you need their help and give them a task to take ownership of.
Try not to stray too much from your morning routine on the weekends.
Optional Denial Form
A parent can deny permission for any of the following scenarios:
- Video taping of student
- Publication of a studentâs written and/or art work within a school, on a school website, or on media outlets
- Use of a studentâs first name
- Use of a studentâs picture
- Access to computers and the use of internet for instructional purposes
To deny permission, the parent or guardian must fill out the Technology Usage Denial Form. This form should be taken to the school in which the student is enrolled. The information will be recorded in a studentâs demographic information which is recorded electronically in Springdale Schoolsâ information database.
8/22- Week 2 (Kinder- choice 1 on Wed/Fri and choice 2 on Mon/Tues/Thurs)
Food Service Position
We have a food service position open at Young. The hours are 7:15-1:15 each school day. Positions start as a substitute to make sure it is a good fit and then become permanent. Apply online OR email cnorwood@sdale.org for more information.
