Mrs. Hirsch's Weekly Update
January 26th, 2024
Weekly Note
Dear Parents
We had great fun on Thursday celebrating our table point goal being met. We enjoyed bring in our favorite stuffed animals and playing some games. I am including some photos in this post for you to enjoy.
This week students started writing drafts for their opinion pieces. Watch out! Some of them have some interesting requests and convincing arguments that they may be presenting to you as they research their self-chosen topics. I have already received a proposal for a class pet and informed the class that they have some serious work to do to convince me to get one! Opinion writing is a fun unit. In reading we continued to study character perspectives in narrative writing. Math was exciting as we started exploring fraction concepts. In social studies we began our learning of Native American tribes of California and in science we continued to wrap up our energy unit.
Valentine's Day is Coming!
In room C3 we will be celebrating Valentine's Day on February 14th. Students are asked to make a Valentine box at home and bring it to class that day. They may also bring cards to pass out. Our celebration will include passing out cards, an easy craft, and some Blookit games (always a hit) on the computer. Parents are welcome but not needed!. Your help making boxes and providing Valentine's is enough!
Big Changes
As you know, big changes are coming to room C3 and the Tierra Linda Campus. I am excited to be your new interim assistant principal. As a part of this new position, I am grateful that I will still get to see and work with my kids and families here at Tierra Linda. I know this is a big change for us all and I thank you for your support and for welcoming Mrs. Bartell. She and I will be working closely together the next few weeks to make the transition as smooth as possible for students and families. Thank you for your support!
The students and I had a great community circle discussion about it on Thursday. While some expressed sad feelings I appreciate their congratulations and excitement for me. The students asked if we could make our Valentine's Day celebration a "Goodbye Mrs. Hirsch" party and I think that is a great idea! I will bring them a cupcake treat and we will play some fun games that day. I am going to miss this sweet bunch of kiddos!
