Grading Guidelines

You will score each fluency and comprehension lesson the same way each time. Start reading the passage the first day you start the lesson. Practice each day. On the last day of the lesson (day 4 or 5) you select the 8-10 sentences and have your student read for fluency and score.

Fluency: Please provide a percent grade for Fluency. Select a medium-sized paragraph (8-10 sentences) from the story above and have your student read it. Grade based on accuracy and expression. Divide the number of correctly read words by the total number of words in the paragraph to calculate the percent grade.

Comprehension: Please record the grade for comprehension using a percentage grading scale. Grade student’s comprehension based on the Lesson 5 questions located in the Teacher’s Guide under the Reading Activity section.
