New Year's Eve Celebrations
Cherokee County Welcome Center - December 2018/January 2019
Where will You be on New Year's Eve 2018?
Have a safe and happy Holiday Season
The Tradition of the Possum Drop has found its New Home in Andrews!
Clay Logan–the father of the Possum Drop in Brasstown–passed over the reins to the Town of Andrews. Logan reassures everyone that the same charming activities from the previous Possum Drop will remain, including the “Southern gentlemen dressed as Southern ladies contest,” also known as Miss Possum.
Festivities will start at 4 p.m. in downtown Andrews. Craft vendors, food trucks, artists and musicians will fill the streets until 10 p.m. Heritage Park will be the main venue for the Possum Drop from 10 p.m. to midnight. Before midnight live entertainment will take place at the park including Miss Possum, the Veterans dedication ceremony and musical performances from local bands.
Once the clock hits midnight, a live possum will be gently lowered in a plexiglass box, signifying the beginning of the new year.

Peter Thomas & David Peters
Four fingers, four strings - we were made to play ukulele. Whether you're a complete novice, or know a bit about the uke and want to take your playing to the next level, join us! Tin Pan Alley, country, folk, rock, and more styles - this instrument can handle them all. We'll focus on basic chords, build chords into families, and explore how music works in general, all the while singing and strumming fun songs like “Five Foot Two,” “Hey, Good Lookin’,” and many more. (Don’t want to sing? Just have fun strumming along.) Fun is the most important part!
To register for the Music class, click on "Find a Class" at the top of the webpage and search for 12/26/18 Music by Subject or Date -- or call 1-800-365-5724.
