McGovern News!
May 27, 2022
This was certainly a difficult week as an educator and as a parent. The events that happened earlier this week in Texas are heartbreaking and hit close to home for all of us as I am sure it did for you. Please know we are committed to our student's safety and continue to work with Medway Police on both our school and District practices. We have invested significantly in student safety and are continuously looking for areas of refinement and/or improvement.
As a school, luckily, we have not seen a significant effect of the news on our students, but that does not mean you're not. Additionally, we know everyone processes things differently and at our own pace. So things may still crop up for your child in the days and weeks to come. If you feel that your student needs support, please don't hesitate to reach out. Below are a few parent resources.

Exit Door to Parent Pick Up
I met with Dr. Pires earlier this week and we are looking into possible solutions that could decrease the likelihood of this happening again. Such measures as possibly hard wiring an alarm are things we are looking into.
In the interim, I have informed staff that all students who are being dismissed need to be escorted to the main office.
We will continue to refine our practices as challenging situations arise. I always appreciate when families bring a concern to my attention so we can look at possible solutions inclusive of both our practices and building structures.

Library End of Year Book Returns
Dear McGovern Families,
With the end of the school year getting closer the school library is looking for any books that may still be at home to be returned. Student check outs will finish on Friday June 3rd with no more books going home. We will also send out book return reminders the Friday after, June 10th.
Please be advised that any lost books should be paid for by check to the school. Please make out any payments to 'Medway Public Schools' with a note that the payment is for 'McGovern Lost Books'.
Thank you so much for all your help and support this year for our school library, we loved helping your students read and develop a love of books! If you have any questions or concerns regarding the return of your child's book(s), please email the library staff at either:

Night of the Arts~ First Grade
Dear First Grade families,
Thank you so much for attending our McGovern “Night of the Arts” event! It was amazing to be able to welcome families into the building and share a little bit about each of our areas with you. As there was only enough time for you to rotate around to three specialists, we wanted to make sure you were able to receive the information (and some activities!) from the sessions you weren’t able to attend. Please use the links below to access the handouts from the night to help you learn a little bit more about what we do in the Allied Arts!

Field Day is coming!!
Field Day is Scheduled for Wednesday June 15th (with a Rain Date of Friday June 17th)! Similar to years past, MEPTO will organize our parent volunteers for field day. We are so thankful for their continued partnership. We will be bringing back some water events, so I'd suggest packing an extra shirt just in case! We will have alternative options for any student who does not want to participate in a water events.
Please also be sure to put sunscreen on your child, pack a water bottle, and have your child wear sneakers. The day is filled with lots of activities both inside and outside our building.
Water bottles, Sunscreen and Proper Footwear
Please remind your students to bring their water bottles daily, we have had many thirsty visitors to the office this week. We want to ensure that all students have access to water throughout their day. Please be sure your child's name is clearly marked on their water bottle.
Please apply sunscreen to your student before they come to school as you see appropriate.
As students are participating in wellness and recess daily, please be mindful of the best type of footwear for physical play.
