What's Happening in the Library Jan 29-Feb 2, 2018
Library News
- Internet Safety Month has started in the library. This is a requirement in my curriculum. Please make every effort to sign up for library when available!
- Even though we're focusing on Internet Safety this month in the library, it is still YOUR responsibility to continue the conversation in your classrooms throughout the year. Please let me know if you'd like lesson resources for your classes. This includes lessons on netiquette, cyber safety, keeping personal information safe, AND copyright/citing sources. One person can not teach a subject this important in one month. We all have to live it.
- There is a VERY small window of time next week I'm able to see classes due to personal days (I am not provided a sub), unexpected appointments and a visitor from Long that will be seeing students in the library. Becuase of these, I have made the calendar available for next week AND the week after. Next week's appointments will be 15-minute checkout only.
- Our next book fair is just around the corner. This time, we will be adding a program called "All For Books." Your class can work together between Feb 1 and 22 to earn money. This money goes directly back to the classroom for new classroom library books. Whatever amount your class earns, you'll get to spend on books from the book fair! The class that earns the MOST money will get some awesome emoji pillows to enjoy in your classroom library.

Library Programs
Each month I have a reading challenge and a question. These make great activities for students who finish early! Feel free to make copies, add to your Google classroom, or share with families to do at home.
Reading Olympics-February
Pick a "power author" from the list provided (Mrs. Wiggins can help you!). These are authors that at one time were extremely popular and wrote high-quality books. Answer the questions on the other side of the paper. Turn in by February 28.
Mrs. Wiggins Wants to Know
This year we're adding a multiple choice question that we'll graph in the hall for some math connections!
In February, Mrs. Wiggins wants to know...which book do you wish would be a series?

Canva is my favorite little secret! This free program is perfect for making newsletters or flyers. The designs are already made, or you can start from scratch.
Pro tip: If a design is marked as $, it's usually just one element of the design. You can simply delete it and use another free element or upload something from your computer.
I use this one A LOT, so please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions.
