WHAT IS UTAH SCHOOL LAND TRUST MONEY AND WHAT DO WE USE IT FOR? AND WHAT IS TITLE I?
Have you heard about Utah trust lands and do you know what they are used for? Are you familiar with Title I?
Utah has set aside parcels of lands for the benefit of education and our students. We have an MWMA Land Trust Committee and Community Council that meets twice each year to discuss land trust funding and Title I, and we welcome parents to serve on this committee. To find out more about trust lands, check out this website:
https://www.smore.com/8xw5d-volunteer-to-serve?ref=email
And to learn all about Title I, check out this podcast episode:
https://www.mwmacademy.org/podcast/episode/62?episode_number=25
As we look forward to what we hope will be a “normal” school year this fall, we encourage you to get involved and consider serving on next year’s committee!
Thanks,
Ms. Angie

MS. MARIANNE, SCHOOL COUNSELOR
Hello amazing Mountain West community. I would love to talk to you about the wonderful diverse student body population we have. We have kids of all different racial/cultural backgrounds, financial backgrounds, and family backgrounds. Still, the one thing I see time and time again is the kindness that is found in most of our students. I see students from different backgrounds playing together, laughing together, and learning together. I see students be respectful when they disagree or ask questions when they don’t understand where another student may be coming from.
I am so impressed with how wonderfully many of you are raising your kids. They not only tolerate diversity but they thrive when surrounded by those who are different from themselves. They have a desire to learn about other cultures around the world and to see different ways to solve a problem. This is one of the reasons that our school is so great, together we can bring out the light in each other. Please continue to encourage your children to see the best in one another and to lift each other up when possible.

MEDIA MINUTE
Dear MWMA Families,
When the summer heat has you heading inside for AC (or perhaps under the nearest shade tree), what better way to relax than with a good book? The city library has an excellent and diverse selection of recommended reads, which you can find here: https://resources.slcpl.org/booklists.
In addition, the Salt Lake County Library will announce the details of their, "Tails and Tales" reading challenge on May 3rd, so check this link for details: https://www.slcolibrary.org/summer-reading/summer-reading. I expect it will be a virtual program, but there should be prizes to help your students stay motivated to maintain reading 20 minutes per day throughout the summer.
Have an adventure-packed summer!
Ms. Melissa

Ms. Karen
Karen Wilson has worked at Mountain West Montessori since 2016. She started working in the front office as a part-time secretary. The following year she started working full-time and has been doing the bookkeeping, working in HR and running the lottery. Karen has loved working at Mountain West Montessori. She very much enjoys getting to interact with the students.
Back in 1998, Karen became a realtor and loved selling real estate. She did this for a decade until the market crashed in 2008. That is when her third and last son was born. It was a great time to become a “stay at home mom”. Karen is most proud of her three sons. Her oldest, Bobby, is 24 and has earned his Master’s Degree. Jace is 20 and has made the Dean’s List in his second year at the University of Utah. Last but not least, Dax will soon be 13 years old and plays the violin, piano, and is on the Honor Roll.
Karen’s favorite thing to do is anything that is with family. She loves hosting holiday events and playing games. She enjoys reading, hiking, vacationing and snuggling her dogs.
Ms. Karen shares, “Working at MWMA has been a real highlight in my life. I feel so lucky to work with such great people. I love the staff, students, and families so much. I am so proud of our school!”.
