Welcome to our CTS Snapshot - a weekly celebration update. We are delighted to share with parents and carers alike student triumphs at Corby Technical School. We are proud of every student and every success they have - please feel free to share with us any achievements they might have.

Mr Goddard would like to say well done to Mia (7ST) who has been really brave and very resilient after breaking her leg and is still in school every day.

Subject Highlights:
Maths:
Mr Lee has nominated Year 9 for a really focused start to term as we started our unit of work on percentages. Also nominated are Year 11 for their hard work, determination and resilience in their first GCSE exam!
Miss Harrison has nominated 8C2 Maths group for their fantastic start to the new term. They were extremely focused in the first lesson back and pushed themselves to move onto the challenge tasks.
Mrs Wynn has nominated 9C2 for a great start to this term. Also, a reminder of this being the final push for 11P. There are only 7 lessons left. Lets keep up the momentum and aim high!

Miss Patrick has made the following nominations this week:
Year 7:
This week Miss Patrick would like to celebrate 7SW for their active listening skills. Their focus and attention during the lesson meant that students were able to accurately draw in the drumbeat for 3 different 1990's classic hip-hop songs. Keep up the good work!
Year 8:
Year 8 have started exploring Reggae music this week and have successfully performed a skank rhythm on the ukulele. Miss Patrick would like to celebrate 8SI for their focus in class this week, which led to a great performance of 'Don't worry' by Bob Marley. A special mention to Maisy for moving between chords fluently whilst maintaining the off-beat rhythm - well done!
Year 9 :
Year 9 have been learning how to construct major and minor chords this week. Miss Patrick would like to celebrate 9TE who were able to create successful chord patterns by the end of the lesson. A special mention to Sarah and Lucy for quickly and accurately identifying the notes in each chord - well done!
English:
Miss Lodge has nominated 7BZ for fantastic engagement with our new topic. They created some brilliant pieces of work using images to help learn important contextual information about Victorian Britain and detective fiction. Also nominated are 9AZ for their sensitive and mature attitude when discussing the novel, we are currently studying and the important content it includes.
Miss Vye has nominated 7AZ for their excellent creative writing pieces featuring their own detectives. Miss Vye very much enjoyed reading them!
Mr Toye has nominated Year 8 student Erin M for her clever play with language: "cabbit", and Year 9 student Eva for quick recall of writerly techniques.
Humanities:
Mr Foreman has nominated the following Year 7 students for excellent homework:
Emilee W, Kacper K, Cassie-Jo, Szebasztian, Jimmy, Tanisha, Gabriel and Patrick.
Mr Strumpher has nominated Year 12 travel and tourism class for working hard towards their examination. Also nominated are Robert and Corne (8CU) Geography class for always working hard in lessons and doing their utmost best.
Mrs Brook has nominated Year 8 student Emilia for her constant hard work in RE and fantastic answers during class discussions.
Mr Shepherd has nominated the following Year 9 students for amazing end of topic results on their oceans topic:
Finn M, Sarah D, Kevin J, Alessandro, Vladimir, Aston, Lucy and Dominik.
Miss Buffini has nominated Year 9 who presented their work on the Holocaust memorial that they had planned. A beautiful idea of a desk as a remembrance memorial was wonderfully created and delivered by Milly, Duru, Georgia and Alicja. Very well done to them for such a well thought out and caring presentation. Also nominated are Alexandra, Megan, Amelie, Tara and Yagmur also designed a beautiful garden. Well done to all in 9CU who worked hard!
Spanish:
The Modern Foreign Languages Department would like wish ‘Good Luck’ to all the Year 11 Spanish students for next Tuesday’s Listening and Reading exams! We are sure that you will build on all the success you had in your speaking exams and will do yourselves and us proud. We have everything crossed for you! ¡Buena suerte a todos!
Well done to all Year 10s who handed in their Conversation 1 presentation paragraph in preparation for their first GCSE mock speaking exam later this term. Mrs Bartlett has seen some fantastic pieces of work from 10B/sp1 and Veronica in 10ASP/Sp. You have ensured a really positive start towards success in this exam and all the MFL teachers look forward to seeing how well you do in the upcoming exams.
DT and Engineering:
Mr McCrory has nominated Year 7 students Lucas and Christian who have been working really well with their practical project and being really helpful to their peers.
Mr Hirst has nominated Year 11 engineering students who received their resit grades this week! As well as receiving the status of ‘excellence’ for Engineering from the NCFE exam board from the work you have produced throughout the school year.
PE:
Mrs Feeley has nominated 12C Sport for their excellent preparation for their practical coaching sessions due to start next week. Also nominated are Year 9 students Blanka and Nicole I for their technique in discus and Maya B for perseverance with the technique and 8AG1 for excellent teamwork in lessons this week when starting a new topic.
Mr Clamp has nominated Year 10 students Weronika W and Ava G for outstanding work in Sports Science.
Science:
Mr Ali has nominated 9CX and 9BY for their fantastic results on their health and disease end of topic assessment, in particular to Iosif and Nicole K for their excellent results.
Mr Anglim has nominated KS3 science club for their amazing investigation into fireworks. In particular, Filip (8CU) for leading a demonstration and helping the younger students.
Mr Godfrey has nominated Year 10 students Nathan, Josh and Ava for their excellent contributions in lessons this week.
Miss Kritzinger has nominated 8BZ for a wonderful DNA extraction practical, especially Patricia, Sophie, Ellie, Marika and Margarita.
Mr Abnett would like to congratulate 11BP1 who have worked extremely hard this week in preparation for their next Chemistry exam. Well Done to all!
Sixth Form:
Mr Hallas has nominated Finlay W and Jack in Year 12 for their ongoing commitment to the page turner’s programme. Both Finlay and Jack will be instilling their love of reading through supporting year 7 students with their reading for the duration of term 5.
Harry Potter Trip:
Students and staff had a great day!
Year 8 Science:
Riley (8SW) has been investigating the Newton’s second law of Force = mass x acceleration in science club, using a catapult and different masses of pompoms and after analysing his results he has found that the force of the pompom gets bigger as the pompom gets heavier. He has done all of this investigation and analysis very independently.
