Muskego Lakes Family Newsletter
November 11, 2022
Dear Muskego Lakes Families,
This week, in honor of Veterans Day, we took time to reflect and honor those who have served our country as a school. It was the focus of our community day today, and students participated in numerous activities related to Veterans Day and learning about the armed forces. We shared the following message with students during our morning announcements today:
"Today is Veterans Day, a day that we remember the service and sacrifice of our veterans.
Veterans Day started out as being called “Armistice Day” because the first year it was celebrated, in November 1919, was the anniversary of the end of World War 1. The end of World War 1 happened on November 11th - at the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month" of 1918.
President Ronald Reagan described Veterans Day this way:
“We remember those who were called upon to give all a person can give, and we remember those who were prepared to make that sacrifice if it were demanded of them in the line of duty, though it never was. Most of all, we remember the devotion and gallantry with which all of them ... became champions of a noble cause.”
So how can you, too, be a champion of a noble cause? Are you a positive leader in the classroom or at recess? Do you stand up for the right of other students to feel included and valued at our school?
Today, as you learn about veterans day, listen to our guest speakers, learn about our armed forces, and remember our veterans as heroes and role models. If you know a veteran, thank them for their service.
We will now have 7th-grade students Macy, Sami, Ascher, and Ryan play taps followed by two minutes of silence as a sign of respect and a time for reflection on those who served."
Today during community day, students at Muskego Lakes had the opportunity to speak to a veteran, learn why we celebrate Veterans Day, and participate in an honor walk to learn about different service men and women that our staff, students, and family know. In addition, students spent time writing thank you notes to those that have served, and even make care packages to send to our veterans and active military. We are proud of our students for taking the time to reflect on and honor our military service members, and we want to express our gratitude to those of you who serve our country.
With love,
Rachel Rydzewski & Nancy Pasch

Staff Member Spotlight - Mrs. Warr
Mrs.Warr is a fifth grade teacher here at Muskego Lakes. She teaches literacy and social studies on Team SOAR. In addition to teaching, she is also our cross country coach, and coaches track at Muskego High School. We asked her what are you most proud of when thinking about her own education and career and she said:
"As an educator, I am most proud of teaching various grade levels and subjects. I also am proud of learning to embrace new strategies and approaches to help my students"
Here is a little more to help you get to know Mrs. Warr
Favorite Coffee Drink: Coffee with vanilla creamer or a coffee frappuccino
Favorite Subject When In Middle School: I didn't go to a true middle school because I was in a K-8 building, but I liked the teacher I had for science and what topics we studied.
Fun Fact About Me: I was rather short in elementary school and most of high school. I was maybe 5-4 -5-7 until I went to college when I grew another 3-4 inches to 5-10!
My Dream Vacation: Something active. I hope to go to Hawaii someday to explore. I would love to go to Ireland someday as well.
My Students Would Describe As: Someone who has high expectations and also tried to make learning fun whenever possible.
Staff Member Spotlight - Mrs. Hartmann
"When I decided to return to work after being home with my kids for a few years, I wasn't sure exactly where to head. I had so many interests! I'd been a "Corporate Trainer" before leaving the workforce - creating content and leading classes, as a Learning Specialist for a financial institution. I was helping people to become really good at their jobs and more confident in their abilities, leading to job satisfaction and retention. I'd also worked as a District Manager for a large grocery store chain, before that, and liked the fast pace, demanding environment.
As I considered what I really wanted out of the next chapter of my work life, I considered that I adored working with kids of all ages. I was a girl scout leader for 9 years and thought that many of the skills I'd developed could translate into working for the school district. I knew that MNSD had ranked highly as an employer in the Journal's annual survey, that was part of the reason I decided to reach out to someone I knew in the district. After that conversation, I knew being part of Muskego Norway School District was something I wanted to try. Lakeview Elementary had a job opening for an Educational Assistant, and I applied. I was hooked! After a year, when Bay Lane Elementary opened, I moved there. Educational Assistants (EAs) work directly with students and they also help support teachers. They supervise recess, lunches and help students with work in classrooms too. It is a blast! You get to know students and care deeply for them. You get to see students in all sorts of different environments - socially and playfully with their friends at recess and lunch, and then also a learner, when they're in the classroom. What I thought would be a short stint turned into something more. After a few years, I opted for a change of pace, and now work as an administrative assistant in the Student Services office (where the school Social Worker, Psychologist, School Resource Officer, and Counselors work). I am honored to serve students and staff in this school, and am proud of the work that happens here."
Here is a little more to help you get to know Mrs. Hartmann
Favorite Coffee Drink: I drink strong black coffee - on hot days, on cold days, and all day.
Favorite Subject When In Middle School: When I was in Middle School, my favorite class was literacy, because I loved reading, but I also had fun in Science because of getting to do things like test our blood type, grow mold, and use bunsen burners.
Fun Fact About Me: I can hold my breath for 30 seconds (tee hee hee- that's a Despicable Me reference, for those that aren't that impressed)
My Dream Vacation: I'm not going to pass up any vacation, and I'm up for trying just about any place, from somewhere way up north for a weekend of hiking, eating out and visiting little shops, to a longer trip to historic American destinations, to the beach, to world-wide trips.
My Students Would Describe As: I hope the students at Muskego Lakes see and feel what I try to show them: Kindness, compassion, patience, love.
