Barber Bulletin
Spring brings a renewed sense of possibility and provides us with an opportunity to think about what we’re doing well and where we can improve. This week has been such a positive, engaging week at our school. We enjoyed ARTS DAY today and welcomed many local artists to our school to share art experiences with students. Many students wrapped up MAP by meeting or exceeding their Target Growth Goal in Math and Reading. Our Student Council hosted a walk to celebrate one of our very own students! Our Upper Montessori students just returned from an overnight trip to Camp Greenville and enjoyed outdoor experiences that they will remember for a lifetime.
Forgive me but I can’t help but get excited! There are so many remarkable things happening at Pontiac. Our school is integrating student leadership in ways that inspire our students. This, after all, is the purpose of The Leader in Me: to produce students who are equipped with the leadership and life skills they need to succeed in school, college, and life. We, at Pontiac, are working hard to communicate to students their individual worth and potential; to provide a place where student, staff, family, and community voices are valued; and build a sense of belonging for all stakeholders. It is our hope that this inspiration will help all students strive to do their personal best each day.
Parents, look for ways to encourage leadership in your students. What are your child’s gifts and talents? Let’s help them explore these strengths and ignite a spark! Together, we can!
Have a wonderful Spring Break! We look forward to students’ return on Monday, April 9.
Rising Sixth Grade Students
Richland School District Two is pleased to offer band, string, and choral instruction to 6th grade students. Music teachers from the middle schools recently visited Pontiac and gave an orientation session for the 5th graders. No previous musical instruction is required to sign up for the classes. Students received a brochure at the visit to sign up for middle school music. Please complete, sign and return the brochure by March 29th to Ms. Rayner OR you can register online:

Mission Statement
The Community and Action Team hope that you and your family have discussed your vision, plan, or goal for your family. Below are the next steps for creating the Mission Statement.
Creating a Mission statement
After defining the outcome, next is to create a family mission statement. In order to do this, figure out what is most important to your family by answering these seven questions:
- What is the purpose of our family?
- What kinds of things do we want to do?
- What kind of feeling do we want to have in our home?
- What kind of relationships do we want to have with one another?
- What are our family’s priorities?
- What are our responsibilities as family members?
- How can we contribute to society as a family and become more service-oriented?
Give your children the opportunity to express their feelings of what they think is important to your family. Mission statements do not need to be long or formal, they just need to represent what is important to you and your family. Don’t try to rush this process. This may take a few months! Make sure that your family feels that the mission statement clearly represents what is important to everyone.
