Note from the Principal
I hope all of you had a terrific holiday break. I enjoyed spending time with my family and eating way too much!!
As we close out our 2019, there are some things that you need to know this month. FIrst, all grades will be taking middle of the year assessments. Grades K-2 will begin testing December 2 - 6. Grades 3-6 will be testing the final week of the semester, December 16-19. Second, we will be having a Holiday Spirit week on December 16-20, where if students choose they may participate in dress up days.
If you have a question or concern do not hesitate to reach out to Ms. Lewis or me. We are here to support the learning of our kids!
Sincerely,
Dr. Newman

Science Fair
The Science Fair is Coming!
The Science Fair committee has been working hard to create and share a website with you to help you with all things Science Fair. This offers tips, tricks, steps, and DUE DATES! There are also videos and explanations on how to do things. Please use this website to help you and your student with your Science Fair work. We are currently still creating and editing the last portions, which are under construction. They will be published very soon.
Thank You so much for your continued support in our Science Fair efforts. We know this is a big project and hope this helps to make it easier and for you to feel more successful!
When Visiting, Bring Your Government Issued ID!!
For the safety and protection of all students, visitors must first check in with a photo id at the office before entering the building. The visitor or volunteer badge must be worn visibly at all times.
The photo ID must be a government issued form of identification, ie. driver's licenses and non-drivers ID cards, U.S. passports, U.S. military cards, and state or federal agency issued photo IDs.

Teaching Belly Breathing
BELLY BREATHING
Belly breathing slows the pulse and heart rate and promotes a feeling of calm, but it’s critical that the technique be taught correctly. Air is drawn into the bottom of the lungs slowly and quietly. On the in-breath, the diaphragm moves down and the belly is pushed out. On the out-breath, the diaphragm moves up and the belly moves in. Breathing in through the nose helps keep the breathing slow and quiet.
Teaching Tips
- Have students put their hands on their stomach, just above the belly button.
- Next have them focus attention on their breathing as they take a slow, controlled breath through the nose, deep into the lower part of the lungs. They should feel their stomachs moving out as they do this.
- Then have them breathe out slowly through the mouth. They should feel their stomachs moving in as they breathe out.
- Model this process for students and have them practice with you.
