Soccer Plays On
Despite the OSAA shutdown on sports for the fall, the four season model put in place allows for our soccer teams to play a club schedule. This fall, both the boys and girls have played in the high school division of the Southern Oregon Classic League as Oregon Futbol Academy affiliated teams.
The girls have finished league play with a 4-4 record with a positive goal differential. This fall season allowed the girls to give a great group of new and young players lots of experience. As these young ladies head into their official OSAA season in March, they will be joined by some of their more experienced players who decided to forego the fall season.
On the boys side, we have been watching a relatively young squad the past couple of years blossom into a mature group of young men. They have had a great SOCL season achieving a record of 7-0 with one game to go. Their goal differential is most impressive, as they have scored 32 goals with 1 against. In addition, they have beat 6A Grants Pass twice this fall. Our Mustangs got the 1-0 win during a seperate high school boys schedule with local schools and followed that up with a 2-0 win in SOCL play. During their great run, Theo Bergman was selected as a Daily Courier Athlete of the week.
The future looks bright for both soccer teams, and we look forward to the OSAA season coming in March. The season will have a different look due to the pandemic as there will only be league play prior to a modified culminating event that has yet to be finalized. Watch out for these Stangs, they have goals!
