Davis Richmond E-news
May 26, 2023
Dear Parents,
Summer vacation officially begins today for our students and families. Report cards will be available in Home Access Center on June 2nd after 9 a.m.
The staff of Davis Richmond wishes you a safe and happy summer, one filled with continued learning through reading, wondering, exploring, and writing. Take time to read daily and to enjoy leisurely conversation afforded us by long summer nights.
Enjoy your additional family time! We look forward to seeing you again on Monday, August 14th. We have a school supply drop off event planned for Thursday, August 10th from 4-6 p.m. at Davis and Richmond. Here you can drop off school supplies, confirm how your child will get to and from school and meet your child’s teacher.
This is our last edition of the e-news for this year. We will start up again at the end of July. If you have any questions over the summer, our offices are open.
Sincerely,
Gina Shaw and Lisa Simoncelli-Bulak

Senior Legacy Walk at Davis
The tradition continues with our Davis alumni seniors visiting Davis one last time for their legacy walk. The Davis students were very excited to cheer them on as they walked by. Mrs. Herman had a chance to visit with many of her past kindergarten students who are all towering over her now.
Thank You to the PTO for our Field Trip Experiences!
A HUGE shout out to our PTO for providing field trips for our Davis students. Our first graders visited Cosley Zoo, second grade visited Blackberry Farm and our students in ACCESS visited Primrose Farm!
Davis Walking Club Awards
We are very pleased to congratulate students who have excelled in the Walking Club that students participate in during recess. The top 12 students received a medal this week:
- Owen Perkins - 11 miles

Davis Primary Summer 2023 Read Aloud A Boy Called Bat by Elana K. Arnold
We are excited to announce that this summer our students and staff are invited to participate in a virtual book club with the book A Boy Called Bat by Elana K Arnold! A Boy Called Bat is the first book in its series and is funny, heartfelt, and irresistible. The book stars an unforgettable young boy on the Autism Spectrum. We know this book will be a fun way to keep every child engaged in reading and connecting with our school community this summer! Don’t miss out on the opportunity for discussions around acceptance and facing challenges by having our students read at home and along with us via Zoom meetings hosted by Davis staff. Every current Davis student will receive a copy of the book along with discussion questions that you may want to use at home as well as the dates and links for students to join the meetings. (Please click HERE for the flyer)
MEDICAL FORMS
Dear Parents,
Looking ahead to the 2023-2024 school year, if your child requires medication or any action plans, your child will need new physician orders and action plans for the school year. Ideally have the physician date the forms following the last day of school. Forms can be found under health services on the D303.ORG website or linked directly here:
Students entering into kindergarten or 2nd grade will need a dental examination and form completed within 18 months of May 15th, 2024. Current 2nd grade students require a dental examination and form completed within 18 months of May 15th, 2023. A vision examination and form is also required for incoming kindergarten students as well as a physical examination and form.
These forms can be submitted to the main office or emailed to the school nurse at Peggy.Faught@d303.org. Please reach out if you have any questions. The health office direct line is 331-228-2204.
Thank you!

Summer Reading
Summer is almost here. That means it’s time for the Summer Reading Bingo Challenge! To maintain your child’s reading growth from the school year, it is important they continue to read throughout the summer.
Your child will bring home a paper copy of the Summer Reading Bingo sheet before the end of this school year. The goal is for your child to complete 12 or more Bingo activities throughout the summer. When your child completes a bingo activity, cross it out and write a parent/guardian’s initials in the square.
In the fall, have your child return the Bingo sheet to their new classroom teacher, so they can receive a book and prize. Please write your child’s new teacher for the fall of the 2023-2024 school year in the top-right corner. Here is the link to the Summer Reading Bingo sheet in English and Spanish in case you need another copy. If you have questions, please contact Ms. Landells at tracie.landells@d303.org.
Additionally, the St. Charles Public Library offers a summer reading program. Click the link to find out more about their program. I encourage families to visit the St. Charles, Geneva, or other area libraries this summer. The Elgin and Schaumburg libraries are beautiful and worth a drive. Our public libraries offer many great programs and resources for all ages, and spending some time reading books at the library is a great way to spend time together. Happy reading!
