Last Friday, December 1, 2023, Akron staff completed a Teacher In-Service during which we hosted the Denise Pickens Memorial Knowledge Bowl Competition. The competition took place at both the middle school and high school levels. There were 18 teams from 10 different schools in the high school division and 15 teams from 9 different schools in the middle school category.
The competition consisted of one written and four oral rounds (five oral rounds for the middle school). Each oral round was hosted in a room with two other teams (one other team in some middle school rooms) and used a buzzer system to judge which team got to answer first. In the high school division, each oral round consisted of 50 questions.
All participants did a wonderful job and really showcased their knowledge this past week. Akron HS A team performed the best, securing the 4th position. The traveling trophy was awarded to Prairie in the high school division and to Holyoke in the middle school division. These schools will proudly display the trophy until next year's competition, where the battle will happen once again.
The Akron High School KB team will continue to compete this winter/spring and will attend regionals with the hope of qualifying for the state competition.
