Martin School Family Update

Dear Martin Families and Caregivers,

Today was our annual staff tricycle race organized by the MSA! The tricycle race signals the start of Martin's Fun Run called the Pumpkin Stroll. The Pumpkin Stroll will be held on Friday, October 6 but fundraising for the big event starts today! All Pumpkin Stroll proceeds go to field trips, educational programs, and other school events so that your children can participate in these activities for FREE! Trips have included the Southwick Zoo, Roger Williams Park Zoo, North Bowl, Boston Museum of Science, and more! It has also included live animal presentations, science demonstrations, puppet shows, our Spirit Day carnival, and other programming! This is the MSA's biggest fundraiser. Mrs. Doucette, our Media Specialist, in collaboration with the Unlikely Story Bookstore, has arranged for Author Abby Hanlon to visit 2nd grade students at Martin School on Tuesday, September 26! We are all looking forward to this incredible event!

Our MSA is hosting a Kindergarten Social for all Kindergarten families on Wednesday, September 27th from 6-6:45pm (rain date: Oct.4). The MSA has hired Entertainer Stacey Lake from Small Shakers and Singers to get the children dancing! This is an outside event and will be located in the back of Martin. Freeze pops will be served! Feel free to bring blankets and camping chairs to sit down and enjoy the show.

On Wednesday, October 4, all North elementary schools are recognizing International Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day. This event is being organized to encourage healthy family habits such as walking, biking, and rolling to school.

Some important notes:

• This event is NOT like our big Walk to School event in early June. We will not be meeting up to walk to Martin as a school on October 4th. Families should NOT plan on parking in the middle school parking lot.

• This is meant to be a family activity where families walk, roll, or bike to Martin together.
  
• With permission of parents/guardians, students who usually walk to school unaccompanied by an adult may still do so.
• For families who live a little distant from Martin, please feel free to park your car near the school and walk, bike, or roll in!
• Buses will still be running this day, and children may still be dropped off in our carpool zone.
  
• We are still planning on having our big Walk to School event in June!
