The World of Westwood Wolves
Choose Your Own Adventure!
Jan. 31-Feb. 4, 2022
From the principal's office...
We had a good, much calmer COVID week at school. I think (fingers crossed) we have had our peak at Westwood. Most of our students and staff are back from quarantines, etc. and we are so glad! We have had a substitute nurse for a while now, so this has been a lot on our office staff. I'm so thankful for Mrs. Tompkins, Mrs. Janet, and Mrs. Griselda!
Please come through the front car line this Tuesday starting at 3:30 for our monthly free food giveaway. We'll be giving it out until around 4:15.
You may have heard that there is some potential for winter weather in the forecast this Wed/Thur. If the chances for snow are high as we get closer, the district may have us send home devices in case we need to have an AMI (alternative method of instruction) day. However, just because we send devices does not mean we will not have school the next day. When we sent home devices a few weeks ago, the roads ended up being fine and school was open as normal. Unfortunately, quite a few students did not come to school that day which were unexcused absences. If school is ever cancelled, we will send out a phone call, text mesage, post on our website and Facebook, etc. You can also check the news stations/news websites. If your child tells you we don't have school, please make sure you verify the story. :)
Love,
Mrs. Crumby (your proud principal)

Attendance- Did you know?
• Starting in preschool and kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school.
• Missing 10%, or about 2 days each month over the course of a school year, can make it harder to learn to read.
• Students can still fall behind if they miss just 1 or 2 days every few weeks.
• Being late to school may lead to poor attendance.
• Absences and tardiness can affect the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help children catch up.
COVID Updates:
- The test to stay length is now 5 days instead of 7.
- Isolation and Quarantine changes: Can return 5 days after the day of exposure, if no symptoms or if symptoms are improving, and continue to wear a mask for 5 more days
- Children who are fully vaccinated (have had both COVID shots) do NOT have to quarantine if exposed (this has always been the rule- just a reminder)
- If your child tests positive or has been exposed, please complete the form on the district website and someone will contact you about a return date. This form is very important because it helps us document attendance so a student will not have unexcused absences. Teachers will gather work so that students can work at home during this time. www.sdale.org/page/covid
- Test-to-Stay is still an option if your child is exposed at school. When we contact you about a possible exposure, we will review your options. However, Test-to-Stay is not an option for household exposures/outside-of-school exposures.
- If you have multiple children, only the child who has actually been exposed has to quarantine. Other siblings do not unless someone in the home tests positive.
