The Husky Monthly
Sherman County School Newsletter - January
Happy New Year!
We hope that all families had a wonderful and restful winter break, a safe and Happy New Year holiday and that you're ready to get back in to the routine and schedule of school in order to finish this first semester strong.
We are always striving to improve as a school and organization.
One of our focus areas is to improve and strengthen communications with all stakeholders, both inside the school building and outside. We have increased efforts in our community communications via the Husky Monthly newsletter, reviving the school Facebook page, continuously updating the school website, and continuing the use of the school Instagram page.
We are looking forward to add to these measures by providing a way for all stakeholders to share positive feedback and valuable suggestions. New to our website is the Shoutouts and Suggestions page. We invite you to share your feedback and suggestions as your input contributes to the continuous improvement of the Husky experience.
The button below will take you to the page on the school website.
Thank you for taking the time to engage and support Sherman County School.
January is School Board Appreciation Month!
Scott Susi (Board Chair), Seth von Borstel (Board Vice Chair), Kristie Coelsch, Bryan Cranston, & James Alley. We deeply appreciate our school board members and their service and commitment to the success of our school.
Staffing Update
Taylor Crow - Public Library Director
We are happy to welcome Mr. Taylor Crow to our Library staff. Taylor joins Becca Earl in the library to serve both the school library and the public library functions. We are fortunate to have him on site full time to serve both our school and community.
Amanda Bagwell - Student Programs Specialist
Pending board approval at our January 8th school board meeting, we are very excited to announce that Mrs. Amanda Bagwell will be joining our staff in this new role. Mrs. Bagwell is a Sherman grad and she brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise back to Sherman. We are excited and optimistic about all she will bring to Sherman and very confident she will be a wonderful addition to our team and school community.
Duncan Wilcox - NCESD Instructional Assistant - Special Education
We are also pleased to welcome Mr. Duncan Wilcox to our team. Duncan was hired through the North Central ESD and will serve primarily grades 6-12, supporting students with IEPs and facilitating small groups and support time with the ESD's virtual learning specialist. Duncan is from Sherman County and we are so pleased he has returned and will bring a great skill-set to our school community!
❄️ Winter Music Concert 🎵
A big thank you to Mr. Gronberg and all of the musicians who put on a wonderful winter concert in December. One of the many highlights and hits was our new guitar class playing Hotel California by the Eagles. We are proud to be able to offer a second type of music class for students and are looking forward to continuing to grow the music program.
🌨️ Inclement weather - thank you for your understanding and patience when we experience inclement weather as it sometimes impacts the school day. For communication information related to school closures, please see the letter sent to families on November 29th.
📝 Annual state assessments (SBAC) for students in grades 3-11 is coming up this spring. For more information please the state testing page on our website.
🚌 Attention K-5 Families - please be on the lookout for your student bringing home a "Transportation" form this week. As a mid-year check-in and update, we are asking all families to provide us with an updated transportation plan and schedule for how your student will be transported home from school each day. The form will look like the below picture, and needs to be returned to your student's teacher. We understand that plans change sometimes, and so we continue to ask that families call the school for any change in dismissal plans for their student, by 2:00pm.
The additional measures we implemented in November at the elementary grades to ensure that each student is accounted for at dismissal has been an improvement in our dismissal procedures and system and we continue to appreciate families as you partner with us in your student's education. Your student's safety is our #1 priority. Thank you for your prompt attention in getting the form returned to school.
