    A Letter from Your Principal

    Blue Valley North Family,

The end of the second semester is nearly here. Our students have had a great semester of learning and we continue to see the positive impacts of our learning management system, Canvas, in our classrooms. As we gear up for the end of the semester, please take note of the important information below regarding grades and courses in Canvas.

    End of Semester Information

At the end of the day on Tuesday, May 24th, courses in Canvas will conclude and will no longer be visible on the Canvas Parent app. A concluded course is only visible through the Canvas Website. To view Past Enrollment courses, open Canvas in a web browser, log in, and click on the Courses tab. Click View All Courses and scroll down to find the past enrollments. Access Past Enrollment guide (Video tutorial)

Second-semester Report Cards will be published in ParentVUE on June 9th.

    Need some help?

Blue Valley has a variety of resources available for parent support on the district’s Canvas web page, www.bluevalleyk12.org/canvas.

Have a great weekend, Mustangs, and thank you for your continued support!

    Kudos and Celebrations

Newspaper and Yearbook earn state and National honors (new)

The 2021-2022 newspaper staff was awarded an All-Kansas Award yesterday. This essentially means they scored outstanding on a critique looking at different areas of writing, design, photography, overall coverage, and school leadership.

Recently, the 2021 yearbook (last year's yearbook) was awarded an All-American Award (this would be the national organization; All-Kansas is the state organization). This critique was performed by H.L. Hall, whose name probably means nothing to you, but in the yearbook world, he is seen as the "father of yearbooks." We were expecting the critique to be pretty harsh (and he definitely is direct), so how exciting that the 2021 yearbook had earned this distinction. This is the first time we've been awarded an All-American Award, at least in the eight years Diana Manglos, Yearbook Sponsor & Teacher, has been at BVN and from what she can glean of our awards archive.

Let's give a huge round of applause to these students for their State and National Honors!

    2021-2022 Newspaper Staff:

Emmett Abar, Lauren Austin, Reece Bachta, Ruby Bierman, Caroline Clarke, Adelaide Edwards, Sejin Hahn, Calla Jordan, Alexa Newsom, Paige Novak, Bennett Palmer, Arshiya Pant, Abigail Patterson, Anna Sandage, Ella Shafer, Ella Thomas, Jack Toal, Max Wolf

    Editors-in-Chief: Caroline Clarke, Arshiya Pant

    2020-2021 Yearbook Staff:

Stefania Alonzo, Reece Bachta, Kelsey Chellberg, Mary Crossland, Tristan Cummings, Alex Doege, Adelaide Edwards, London Faustino, Olivia Fields, Ben Fine, Abby Glenn, Bhavya Gupta, Gabby Gutierrez, Zoey Kay, Jessica Mu, Emily Nelson, Isabella Noll, Lauren Picollo, Lauren Presley, Yasmeen Saadi, Ainsley Skomal, Clara Taylor, Meredith Vaughn

Editors-in-Chief: Christel de Bruin, Jane Gurley, Anna McCartan

Boys' Tennis Team ~ Regional Champs! (new)

The Blue Valley North Varsity Team captured first place at Regionals. Zachary Amsterdam and Matt Crossland won first place in doubles. CJ Smith won second place in singles. Asher Kort and Aneesh Vasamreddy won third place in doubles. Tanner Summers won seventh place in singles.

Girls' Swimming and Diving Team ~ EKL Champs! (new)

This past the weekend marks the first EKL Championship for BVN Girls Swim and Dive in four years. The coaching staff has been preaching to the girls that if they focus and develop they would bridge the gap and have a chance vs. BV West to regain the title. Well, with a terrific Friday and and a steadfast Saturday that just happened as the team won by nearly 30 pts to claim the title the girls wanted so very badly!

On behalf of Coach Rob Cole and the other coaches, they could not have been prouder as they stepped up to the plate and met those challenges and made that a reality. Congratulations to Senior Caroline Blake for winning the 100 Free and the relay teams of C. Blake, S. Blake, M. Hauser and C. Barton for winning the 200 and 400 Free Relays. As a whole, everyone contributed and some sacrificed primary races to help out the team. For that the coaching staff is appreciative and commends the teamwork to get the job done.

Next up, we have two last chance meets for the girls to achieve state times before state at the Shawnee Mission Aquatic Center May 20-21.

    EKL Final Results:

200 Medley Relay: Maddi Stewart, Katie Rees, Abi Patterson, and Natalie Patterson (3rd ); Reagan Mitchell, Emma Gaebler, Ginger Minderman, and Anna Hamilton (8th)

    Durham Bus Riders

Durham will continue to transport our bus riders in the 2021-22 school year. If you have questions, please call Durham at 913-681-2492. The best time to call is between 9:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. when more staff are available to answer questions.

Durham Bus Services has three helpful tools for families with bus riders. Registration is required each year for families as bus routes and participants change:

    1. Bus Tracker: The Blue Valley Durham location will be using the Bus Tracker mobile app that is available for iOS and Android devices. To use the app, users will create an account that is tied to an email address of the user’s choice. The tool will allow account users to follow the route of a specific bus. Durham is updating daily when a scheduled backup bus is being used for a planned maintenance activity. If a bus is replaced with a quick turnaround due to an unforeseen event, Durham dispatch will make the switch on Bus Tracker at their next opportunity to update the app.
    2. Text Messaging: Families are still encouraged to sign up for Durham Text Messaging. The system is designed to share the “why” as Bus Tracker is designed to tell the “where”. To sign up for Durham Text Messaging visit www.bluevalleydurham.com.
    3. E-Link: Allows for verification of a student’s transportation information (i.e., stop location, bus # and pick-up and drop off times) based on the input of grade and home address. To access E-Link, go to www.bluevalleydurham.com.

    We are Mustang Proud!
