Nike Scout News May 2022
Check out what's happening at Nike
Greetings to all Nike Families,
May 2, 2022
As the final days for this year draw to a close, I would like to acknowledge the efforts made by so very many of our students, staff and parents at Nike Elementary School community during the course of this year. The extraordinary commitment made by all our staff, academic and support staff alike, means that we can continue to succeed and flourish as a learning community.
As the end of the year is upon us, please be sure to check our monthly calendar and District website for important end of year updates. It will be a busy final month and we want to make sure you are kept up to date on everything that will be taking place. We will have a third trimester celebration on Friday, May 20th and Field Day on Monday, May 23rd. Fourth grade send off/celebration day will be Tuesday, May 24th. Pre-K's promotion and kindergarten promotion will be Wednesday, May 25th. More information with be shared with the classes when the events get closer. May 25th is a half day and students will be dismissed at 1:10. Summer vacation officially starts on Thursday, May 26th for students! We have already commenced planning for the new academic year and we look forward to seeing everyone on the first day of school, which is set for August 23rd.
Finally, I wish all our Nike families all the very best for the summer holidays and look forward to welcoming you all back, relaxed and refreshed for what promises to be an enjoyable and productive year.

Coins for our Community Update
The Coins for the Community helped the Franklin County Humane Society, which was the highlight in last month's newsletter. Coins for the Community also helped fun the Little Free Food Pantry. Thank you to the Hunter family for building and delivering our Little Free Food Pantry to Nike Elementary. A thank you to our maintenance department for installing our Little Free Food Pantry. We are in the process of painting it, but the weather has not cooperated lately. The quote, which will be on the door of the pantry will say "Take what you need, leave what you can".
Dine to Donate total from Pizza Hut
The top two classes enjoyed a pizza party from Pizza Hut! Mrs. Harris's first grade class was first place and Ms. Katrina's Pre-K class came in second, but was within dollars of Ms. Harris's class, so they enjoyed a pizza party also!
STEAM Club at Nike Elementary School
We have had a great turn out for STEAM Club. We are on our fourth and last week of STEAM Club. We will have STEAM Club next year also.
From Nurse Jamie
Summer Discovery is approaching quickly! Summer Discovery gives our students the opportunity to do lots of fun activities and often involves spending more time outside in the summer sun! Please be sure to apply sunscreen to your kiddos before arriving at Summer Discovery. You may send sunscreen with your child but they will have to apply it themselves. We do not provide sunscreen.
If your child has medication or an inhaler in the nurse's office, and they are NOT attending Summer Discovery, those will need to be picked up by the last day of school.

Library
Wow! The end of the year is always SO busy! ALL library books will be due back to the library on May 9th. I will be sending home several overdue notices of books that are late. If a book is lost or damaged, then it will need to be paid for so your child can check out next year.
We are working on several fun activities as we end the year up. Fourth grade has been working on their four season WeVideo project. Third grade will be doing a Breakout Box. Second grade will be writing and mailing friendly letters to family and friends. PreK, Kindergarten and first grade are learning about butterflies and doing some butterfly activities.
At the end of the year, some information will be going home about summer reading opportunities. We will be doing a summer reading program at Nike to encourage students to read. There will also be summer reading opportunities through the public library.
Physical Education
The school year is starting to wind down and along with that intramurals are as well. The last day of hockey intramurals will be Friday May 6th.
Please be making sure your student is bringing tennis shoes on their PE days to allow them to be more comfortable while running and playing.
Be on the lookout for Field Day info. Information will be sent out in the coming weeks, there will be a parent sign up sheet for those who would like to come and help out with one of our stations.
Third & Fourth Grade Honor Roll
PTO Spotlight
Thank you to all who came to the Rummage Sale, rented a spot and stopped by the Silent Auction table. We made a little over $200. With all the money we raised at Pie in the Face, PTO purchased a $50 gift card for each teacher for Teacher Appreciation week. We are looking into bigger items to purchase for the school in the coming year. Also, PTO is providing desserts on Friday of Teacher Appreciation week. Sign up on our Signup Genius link if you are interested in donating cookies, brownies or cupcakes. We greatly appreciation any donations.
