October 5th
It's October!
It is hard to believe that is already October 5th. It feels like just yesterday we were welcoming everyone back and it was the first day of school! Time sure does fly when you are having fun!
October is a busy month for #TheCunningFAM. On October 11th (and all week) we invite all families to participate in family-teacher conferences. This is a great way to have a conversation with your child's teacher and develop a plan together to support the learning. On Friday, October 22nd we invite EVERYONE to join the PTA at the Thicket for our annual Fall Fest! Lastly, on October 29th we'll have our annual Character Dress Up Day. Students can dress like a character from one of their favorite books to help celebrate the season (yes, I'm sure you can find a batman book).
We hope everyone is starting to enjoy the cooler weather!

October is National Bullying Prevention Month
From Pacer's National Bullying Prevention Center -
- More than one out of every five students will be bullied this year, chances are this is happening to someone you know and care about.
- Bullying is a community-wide issue that must no longer be ignored or thought of as a rite of passage.
- Every child has the right to feel safe and supported.
- Bullying directly affects a student’s ability to learn.
- Silence is not an acceptable response to bullying. Ignoring it won’t work. Everyone needs to be empowered with options for responding to bullying situations.
- Everyone’s actions matter; we all have a role to play in bullying prevention. Our message to others is stronger when we are united by the common principle that bullying is never acceptable.
Click HERE for a list of books recommendations from the ADL (Anti-Defamation League). Reading books is a great opening to talk about identity, diversity, bias and social justice.
No Place for Hate
It states -
- I promise to do my best to treat everyone fairly.
- I promise to do my best to be kind to everyone—even if they are not like me.
- If I see someone being hurt or bullied, I will tell a teacher.
- I will help others to feel safe and happy at school.
- I will be part of making my school No Place for Hate.
Cunningham is proud of our 5th grade PALS Leadership Team who also is our No Place for Hate Coalition...leading the way in inclusivity and kindness. Stay tuned for great achievements from them!
