School Counselor and FRC Appreciation Week
It's counselor and FRC appreciation week and we hit the jackpot with Ms. Willis and Mr. Adams. From leading small groups, to motivating and encouraging students, they support our students and families in so many ways and we could never list them all! We appreciate everything they do for students, families, and our staff each and every day. No matter what happens, we can count on both to be ready with a smile.
They each go out of their way to serve others, so this week, we want to show them some love. They absolutely love hand made cards, but I am listing some of their favorite things below as well if you want to surprise them one day.
Ms. Willis' favorites:
Favorite candy: dark chocolate and kit kats
Favorite snack: baked chips and trail mix
Favorite drink: Diet Dr. Pepper
Favorite colors: blue, yellow and green
Mr. Adams' favorites:
Favorite candy: Reese's
Favorite snack: Chex Mix (regular)
Favorite drink: Sweet Tea
Favorite color: blue
We want your empty cereal boxes!
The Steam Lab will be collecting cereal boxes, empty and flattened, until the end of the school year. If you have empty cereal boxes, send them our way! Students may take them to their homeroom teacher or may drop them off in the office.
Repeating (but useful) Information
Title 1
How are schools allowed to use their Title 1 money?
Title 1 funds can only be used for specific things as mandated by law. Schools are allowed to supplement their learning programs, but they cannot purchase new curriculum. LJES chooses to spend the majority of our Title 1 funds on staffing to provide students greater access to adults in order to receive the individualized help they need. The individuals we hire for these positions work with students who are below grade level to catch them up on skills they have not yet mastered. Sometimes, they meet with students outside of the classroom and other times they join the class and assist 'in the moment' as students work on their classroom assignments.
The remaining Title 1 funds from our budget are used to provide professional learning for our staff so they are knowledgeable in best practice strategies for meeting students' needs.
We are hiring!
We are still looking for great people to add to our staff!
