"Stay in the Loop" 15th Edition
Letter From the Principal
Last week St. Pius X hosted its first Multicultural Night! It was amazing to see all the countries represented and to be able to taste, hear, and experience the flavors, music, games, and clothing of many different cultures. It was a beautiful representation of our students' diversity. We are lucky to be able to share, learn, and work with one another. St. Paul tells us in his letter to the Corinthians, "Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ!" Thank you to all those who planned, hosted a table, and attended. We look forward to continuing this event and seeing it grow next year.
I hope you all have a safe and enjoyable week filled with memorable family time during Spring Break!

Stations of the Cross
Each Friday, different grade levels have the opportunity to lead our Stations of the Cross. Last week, our 5th and 6th graders created these beautiful mosaics to depict Jesus' final days. Today, we had the opportunity to participate in a beautiful rendition of the Living Stations with our 3rd & 4th graders. We'll be sure to share more photos on social media!

Judge Cocroft's Social Media Presentation
Mrs. Meyer's Class had the most parents in attendance, so they have earned a Donuts and Dress Down Day!
We were thrilled to have nearly 60 parents in attendance at our social media presentation! Judge Crocroft shared a powerful message about the consequences of misusing texting and social media. If you didn't have the opportunity to attend, please be sure check out the resources below, and remember YOU are the parent and YOU own the phone! (We will add the video once it's uploaded to YouTube.) In order to help protect your child, we would encourage the following:
- Do not allow your child to have devices in their room at night, have a charging station in YOUR room.
- Get a monitoring app (See suggestions below)
- Periodically check the search history
- Ask for the phone at random times and look through it
- Know their passwords and periodically check to make sure they are using apps appropriately
- If you see concerning material, contact parents of the kids involved (Parents should stick together.)
Additionally, Judge Cocroft spoke to our 5th - 8th graders. She asked how many of them would feel comfortable with their parent, an administrator, or even her looking at their phones. While there were LOTS of kids who raised their hand in regards to owning a cell phone, the number of hands decreased drastically when they considered allowing an adult to see what they are doing. She explained how one bad decision can follow them for the rest of their lives and what to do if they receive an inappropriate photo. Please have a discussion with your child about the serious consequences of misusing their devices.
Here are some suggestions for monitoring of devices:

iOS: Family Sharing

Hartley's Solidarity Talk
On February 27, students from Bishop Hartley (some who were SPX alumni!) gave a presentation on the Catholic Social Teaching of Solidarity. The presentation started with a teaching from Fr. Vince Nguyen, pastor of St. Mary's German Village. Fr. Vince spoke about the importance of looking out for our neighbors. We are one human family whatever our national, racial, ethnic, economic, and ideological differences. The Hartley students shared how the uphold the teaching of solidarity through positive communication, standing up for others, watching their language and not making inappropriate jokes, loving themselves, and making friends with the right people. Andrew Jahan, Vice Principal of Operations at BHHS, spoke to the students about school being foundtional and formational: a time when we are learning the building blocks for a successful life. We are grateful for the example of the BHHS Hawks!
Confirmation Retreat
This year's SPX Confirmation Retreat was held on Saturday, March 4th. A team of 20 high school students and 15 adults led 8th grade students through a variety of interactive experiences including community/team building activities, skits, peer witness talks/testimonies, and small group discussions. In the evening, students had the opportunities to meet with Christ in Adoration, go to Confession, and attend Mass.
Not only did all of these activities strengthen the Confirmands resolve to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, but students also received some practical tips on how to navigate their upcoming high school years. At the end of the evening, students stood at the foot of the altar and committed themselves to living as disciples of Jesus Christ, and to go out and encourage others to do the same.
Girl Scout Sunday
Last weekend, our 5th Grade Girl Scout Troop #6378 hosted a "lock-in" for approximately 60 SPX Girl Scouts from 1st-5th grades. After their sleepover in the school gym, the many of the scouts attended Mass at SPX for Girl Scout Sunday.
