Dr. Andrews recognized Lisa for this well-deserved award as well as her impact on USD, “What she does is impacting not just the staff here, but the students.” Common Sense Media, a national nonprofit, will be showcasing Lisa in an upcoming official video.
2020-21 Unaudited Actuals
The Board of Trustees voted to accept the Unaudited Financial Statements for the 2020-21 fiscal year and file the report with the County Superintendent of Schools. Assistant Superintendent of Business Services Rita Sohal presented the financial statements to the Board.
2021-22 Opening Updates and Highlights
Superintendent Dr. Carrie Andrews and cabinet members presented an update on the first 22 days of school in Union School District. Dr. Andrews and Associate Superintendent of Learning and Innovation Sarah Jellin highlighted the critical importance of building relationships and the role school has in students’ lives. Hands-on and social emotional learning remains a strong focus in this first year fully in-person. Assistant Superintendent of Business Services Rita Sohal shared that the number of meals distributed this year has almost tripled compared to the first few weeks in 2019. As the USDA issued flexibility allowing districts to provide free meals through the 2021-22 school year, USD will continue to provide this important service to students and serve free breakfasts and lunches to any student. Steve Burrell, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, and Dr. Andrews reiterated the health and safety processes that ultimately allow our schools to remain open and allow kids to learn and develop together.
