Weekly Update ~ March 8, 2021
Reminder...
Dear Families,
As it is getting warmer, we have some reminders for you. If your child/children walk to school, please remember they cannot arrive on the school grounds until 9:00 a.m. Also, students being dropped off should remain in the cars until 9:00 a.m. There should be no congregating in groups and social distancing and masks are still required. Thank you for supporting this and helping us continue to be mindful of the safety practices around Covid.
From the Superintendent's Desk
The Lake County Health Department continues to recommend avoiding all non-essential travel at this time, to limit the spread of COVID-19.
If you do travel, remember to follow the 3 Ws:
- Wear a mask.
- Wash your hands.
- Watch your distance.
If you did not follow the 3 Ws while you were traveling, we would ask that you consider a 10-day quarantine and let school administration know of your situation. Visit the Guidance for Travelers page to learn more.
If you are planning to travel internationally, be aware that before being allowed to return to the United States, you will need to show proof that you don’t have COVID-19. The CDC requires all air passengers arriving in the United States to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test administered within three days of when their flight departs, or to show proof of recovery from COVID-19.
Find more information on the CDCs Requirement for Proof page.

5th GRADE TEA
This special event with 5th grade girls & their mothers/special guests took place last Wednesday evening, March 3rd. This interactive, virtual event covered important topics for this age group and got the students engaged & asking questions. A huge thank you to Shannon Bilcox and Melissa Sallman for coordinating!
5th GRADE SPREAD THE LOVE PROJECT
The 5th grade spent the month of February ’Spreading the Love’. Students decorated placemats and bookmarks that were donated to The Sheridan at Green Oaks, bringing some cheer to the residents. Students also collected items for the Libertyville Food Pantry. Thank you to all the 5th grade families who participated in the food drive; we collected over 1,000 items for local families! Thank you to Mrs. Tazzioli, the 5th grade team and our room parents for organizing and delivering all the donations. The township food pantry collects items daily at their office at 359 Merrill Court, Libertyville. Please click here for more details if you would like to get involved.
8th Grade Graduation Update
OGS must follow all ISBE (Illinois State Board of Education) and IDPH (Illinois Department of Health) protocols in relation to any event, including those outdoors. As of now, we must work within a maximum capacity of 50 people attending any event at OGS -- indoor or outdoor. However, ISBE is working with the IDPH to increase this 50 person capacity and rely on social distancing as the key mitigation strategy. As you can imagine, this proposal will allow greater flexibility for our graduation planning. We expect updates from ISBE in the next couple weeks and appreciate your flexibility as we slow our planning a bit to allow for these health guidelines to shift in our favor.
Curriculum Corner
Hello Oak Grove Community,
As you know, we have been planning for the administrartion of the IAR assessment since December of 2020. While the US Department of Education has relaxed the language for each state to administer their assessments, the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) has not removed the testing requirement for Illinois. At this time, Illinois schools are still required to conduct these tests in-person and we continue to move forward with our plan unless we hear otherwise.
Please remember to send your students with a charged device and working headphones for the their testing week:
@Home learners grades 3-8: Testing in the building March 29th - April 1st
@School learners grades 3-8: Testing in the building April 5th - April 9th
Specific to @home learners - Please remember to indicate if you need transportation provided for the week of March 29th or the Pickup Placard if you are driving them. We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the end of the month.
