The Gator Gazette

We welcomed John Schu to Allisonville this week as a visiting author and he was simply amazing. He enthusiastically shared his love of reading while giving away over 100 books to our students and staff. You don’t want to miss the pictures from our time with Mr. Schu later in the Gazette. He was inspirational and so much fun! Thank you to Mrs. Weiger for bringing Mr. Schu to Allisonville. Our fall Scholastic Book Fair starts next week and will have many of the books for purchase that Mr. Schu highlighted during his talks at Allisonville.

After being virtual for the last couple years, we are looking forward to hosting an in-person Back to School Night next Thursday, August 25th. Teachers cannot wait to tell families about the plans they have for your children this school year and we are excited to showcase our newly renovated building. Back to School Night is for parents & caregivers only with a formal presentation from the teachers and PTO at the times listed below.

· 5:15-6:00 – classroom presentations for grades K, 2, 4

· 6:00-6:30 – PTO presentation & Specials Teachers introduction in the café

· 6:30-7:15 – classroom presentations for grades 1, 3, 5

· 5:00-7:30 - Book Fair open in the media center

We value the home-school partnership and welcome ALL families to our school. Please join us on Thursday for Back to School Night as you partner with teachers and staff on your child’s education. If you are unable to attend, teachers will send home informational materials. The district video that was shared and Specials teachers introductions can be found on our school website.

At Allisonville, we have a school-wide community meeting each month to celebrate our school and recognize accomplishments. This month’s Gator Gathering will be on Friday, August 26th and we will focus on our Gator Packs as we welcome all new students into their Pack. We are thrilled to provide every student with a Gator Pack t-shirt this year, which they can wear to all of our Gator Gatherings. Don’t forget to ask your child to which Gator Pack they were assigned. This is a great way to build community and establish cross-grade level connections. Gator Packs and Gator Gatherings are also FUN and a time for us to celebrate our pride in ourselves and our school at Allisonville.

We welcome you to Back to School Night on Thursday, August 25th. Due to our limited parking, parents with students in grades K, 2, & 4 will attend from 5:15-6:00 pm. Parents with students in grades 1, 3, & 5 will attend form 6:30-7:15 pm. Specials teachers will also be available and their classrooms will be open during Back to School Night. Additionally, there will be a General PTO Meeting from 6:00pm-6:30pm in the cafeteria. All parents are invited and encouraged to attend to get a PTO overview for the school year. Back to School Night is an adults-only event and is an important time for parents and guardians to meet your child’s teacher. It is a great opportunity to hear about all the wonderful things they have planned for the school year. You can also ask questions about curriculum, grading, procedures, and more. Please plan to join us at Allisonville on August 25th for Back to School Night!

The PTO is supporting our teachers & staff by providing dinner for Back to School Night on Thursday 8/25! PTO will have food catered in for AV staff and teachers and is inviting parents to bring in drinks and dessert. Sign up here to donate goodies:

It's almost book fair time!

It's almost time for the Allisonville Book Fair: Reading Gives You Oceans of Possibilities! The book fair will be open during the school day and students can shop during their specials time. The book fair will also be open during the evening on August 25th during our Back to School Night. Students can shop during the day from Wednesday, August 24 - Wednesday, August 31.

If you know of someone who might be willing to volunteer, forward this email to them or send me their email address. The book fair is successful because of volunteers like YOU!

We are so proud of all of the students who read over the summer and did learning activities! Some students were recognized today. We will be recognizing more students next Friday. If your child participated in the Summer Reading Challenge and/or completed activities in the Summer Learning Packet, please turn your form(s) in by next Wednesday. We will be recognizing these students on Friday, August 26th.

Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school and themselves. Encourage your child to build the habit of attending school on time, every day. Having good attendance will be a skill that will help them succeed at any grade level and in life.

Allisonville Elementary School Directory Update

Each school year, the Allisonville PTO compiles a student directory. Again this year, the directory will be distributed both in print and electronically to ALL families.

The directory will include contact information for each student (parent/guardian name(s), home number and email). These will be listed in the directory as they are listed in Skyward. A student’s parent/guardian can choose to have their student's contact information changed or not included in the directory using the form below. Change requests should be submitted by 9/2/2022.

Cub Scouts Pack 282 is looking to welcome boys and girls K-5 into our group! We meet twice per month (Wednesdays) and do lots of fun activities like hiking, fishing, camping, volunteer projects, the pinewood derby and more! Our join night is 8/24 at 6:30 at the Holt House (6235 N. Olney). Cub scouts is great for the whole family! Join us!
