GES Family Newsletter August 2023

Dear GES Families,

We are so excited about this upcoming school year. Our staff and I have been diligently working this summer to clean, organize, plan and get our schools ready to welcome you and your students back to the building for the 23-24 academic school year.

We will kick off this year with our annual "Meet the Teacher" event on Thursday, August 31st from 2-4pm. We understand that these times may not suit everyone's needs. Therefore, we are hosting a "WILD ABOUT LEARNING" night on Wednesday, September 13th, from 6-7pm. Immediately following, Mrs. Walls, our music, band and chorus teacher, will hold a meeting for those who are interested in signing up for chorus and band.

We are looking forward to a "Wild About Learning" and fantastic school year! Should you have any questions, please contact our school office.

The GES school community is truly a family. We know that for our students to get the best education they deserve, it takes a village. GES would not be where we are today without our students, teachers, parents, staff, and community members. Each of us is a unique and important part of the education equation, which equals success for our students' future.

As a tribute to our strong family tree, we ask that you share a photo of your student and family which will be displayed in our school. Of course, this is not mandatory or expected. However, we very much want you to know that we value our relationships and want to exhibit our strong family connections.

If you would like to participate in this project with us, please send in your family photo. You are welcome to stop by the front office and drop off a photo or email it to one of the administrators or our Community Schools Coordinator, Ashley Powell. You are also welcome to send a photo in with your student on the first day of school. We hope that you will join us in this project.

The Student Information Update form is now open and ready for you to complete. This online form replaces the paper form that was sent home at the beginning of the school year. This form is completed via the parent portal account in PowerSchool. Emails have been sent to all first contacts of our students who have a valid email address.

The completion of this form is crucial. We rely on this form to provide us with the most up to date information on our students. Parents can complete the opt out form for social media, directory, etc for their student. The opt out information does NOT carry over from the previous year. It must be completed each school year.

The other critical part of this form is the Health Information that is passed along to our nurses. They must have the most up to date information on our students in regards to their health.

This information can be found through the county app, county website, family emails, etc.

All Caroline County Public School students may eat breakfast and lunch free of charge this year, with no application needed. CCPS now participates in the Community Eligibility Provision, which allows free meals for all students in schools in low-income areas. There will still be a charge for extra items such as snacks. School menus may be found on the Caroline Schools, MD free mobile app and on all CCPS websites.
