Summer Music Camps are a great way to keep up your playing skills through the summer and it is SO MUCH FUN!
Band camps are very similar to church or athletic camps.
- If it is an overnight or week long camp, campers are well supervised during the day and evenings by counselors (college music students) and adults (band directors and college personnel).
- Most camps are 5 to 6 days long; however, there are some shorter camps for specific instruments. Students spend much of their day in band rehearsals, instrument section rehearsals, and master classes directed by professionals on their specific instrument.
- Recreation and social activities are scheduled for specific times during the day and in the evenings – most include swimming, talent shows, organized games, etc.
- Students usually perform a concert, which is open to the public, on the last day of camp.
- Students are housed in college dorms and eat their meals in college cafeterias.
- The cost of a camp typically includes all meals, room, and tuition. Extra money is needed only for souvenirs, T-shirts, extra snacks, etc.
There are many band camps within a 1-4 hour drive of Wylie. All have different camp dates and costs. In addition, there are several specialty camps throughout the area and your private teacher may know of a day camp for your instrument.
