Principal Update

Happy Friday!

Well...there is never a dull moment when it comes to school! While it was unfortunate that a power outage derailed our plans for Open House, the good news is that we are able to reschedule the event. I want to make sure I avoid conflicting with Helendale's Open House and other LP events so we will need to reschedule for Wednesday, October 12; 6:00pm to 7:00pm.

Another event I want to put on your radar is Family Connect. This is going to be a great opportunity for not only our families, but Durand Eastman families as well. Please see the flyer with more detailed information below. I really hope you can join us; this is a fantastic way to make home-school connections!

Next week is our homecoming spirit week. A flyer went home with your student today but you can also see information below. We also hope you will be able to join us next Saturday, October 1 to walk in our homecoming parade. The more the merrier!

PLEASE JOIN OUR FAMILIES AND STAFF FROM DURAND EASTMAN AND LAURELTON-PARDEE SCHOOL FOR OUR SATURDAY MORNING FAMILY CONNECT. SCHOOL STAFF WILL CONDUCT 30 MINUTE SESSIONS ON HOW TO SUPPORT YOUR STUDENTS AT HOME WITH READING, MATH, AND SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING. WE WILL ALSO HOLD A PARENT ROUNDTABLE ON SOCIAL MEDIA, AND HOW TO EFFECTIVELY MANAGE ALL THAT OUR KIDS ARE BEING EXPOSED TO ONLINE.

BABYSITTING WILL BE AVAILABLE FROM OUR NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY STUDENTS FROM THE HIGH SCHOOL!

PREREGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.

Show your East Irondequoit spirit all this week by participating in our themed spirit days! Remember to join us on Saturday, October 1st for our Homecoming events. Parade - 10:30 am, Carnival - 11 am, Football game - 2pm.

September 26th- Jersey Day - Wear your favorite Team Jersey

September 27th – Pajama Day - Wear your comfy pajamas to school

September 28th – Wacky Wednesday - Wear the wackiest outfit you can put together

September 29th – Tropical Day - Dress like you are going to a Luau

September 30th - Spirit Day - Wear EI colors or spirit wear to show your Lancer Pride!

Homecoming will take place Saturday, October 1st! We will start the festivities by walking in the parade as a school. We will meet in the transportation parking lot at 10:00am. The parade starts at 10:30am. We hope to have many students, families, and staff participate that day!

Be sure to wear your LP gear or East Irondequoit colors!!

The East Irondequoit Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee will reconvene for the 2022-23 School Year starting on Wednesday, September 28. All meetings will be held in the Laurelton-Pardee cafeteria from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Our focus this year will be on culturally-responsive and affirming curriculum. We welcome the participation of East Irondequoit district members at one, many, or all of our meetings each year, but pre-registration is required at this link: https://forms.office.com/r/34D8cfxGFx. Chorus will be starting soon! LP has a chorus for each grade level. Each chorus will perform two concerts this year at Eastridge High School!

Sign-ups for chorus are taking place right now. Every student was given an informational sign-up sheet to take home. If your child is interested in chorus and hasn't signed up yet, there is still time. Please fill out the bottom of the permission slip and have your child return it to school.

If you need another permission slip, they can get another one from me at school.

**UPDATE** Due to the power outage, we are extending the book fair through Monday, 9/26. Feel free to send money to school or set up an ewallet for your student to enjoy the fair!!

The "Reading is Sweet" Bookfair will run next week, September 19th-23rd in the library. It will be open during the school day and during Open House! Families can set up an ewallet for cashless shopping or shop online here: Book Fair Homepage (scholastic.com)

Join the EIMS PTSA and Drug Free Irondequoit for a Vaping 101 Nicotine Cessation Presentation. To promote the welfare of children and youth at home, school and throughout the community.

There will be free childcare provided.

As we get acclimated to a new school year, please make sure that we have a note or phone call into the main office if you are picking up your child from school. If you will be picking up every day, there is a form you can fill out for the year. Please contact the main office (339-1370) for more information.

Also, if you are dropping off your child to school in the morning, we follow a one-way exit pattern for efficiency/safety purposes. You will drop your child off at the first set of double doors on the south side of the building. You will then continue driving around the back of the building, through the utility access road, and out central office to Norton St. On Monday, you will see signs and staff members to help facilitate this process. Please note, we cannot allow cars in the bus loop during morning drop-off or allow cars to turn around and exit back onto Pardee Rd. due to safety concerns.

The state requires that we send out a Digital Equity Survey each year. We do so through the Parent Portal in Infinite Campus. This provides us with more accurate information about who has internet access at home and who does not.

The survey can be seen in the “Message Center” in the “Surveys” tab (Picture below!)

In order to access information like transportation, report cards, iPad protection fees, etc., you will need to create a parent portal account.

How do I create a Parent Portal Account?

Parent Portal Instructions:

In order to create a parent portal account, you will need to have an email address on file with the district before you begin. If you do not already have an email address on file with the district you will need to call the main office of your student's school from a phone number associated with you and your student in order for them to update your information. If you have neither an email address nor phone number on file with the district, you will need to visit your student's main office in person.

1. Visit www.eastiron.org, click on the Infinite Campus link, select Campus Parent and click the "Click here to request a parent portal activation key" link on the Campus Parent homepage. You may also choose to go directly to the URL below.
   https://ic.eastiron.monroe.edu/campus/portal/custom/requestActivation.jsp
2. Enter the email address that you provided to the district in the box and click the "Submit" button.
3. You will receive an email with your activation key.
4. Click the "New User" link on the Campus Parent homepage (refer to step 1 if necessary).
5. Enter your activation key in the box and click the "Submit" button.
6. Enter your desired username, password, confirm your password and click the "Submit" button.
