TCI Experiential Exercises and Writing for Understanding
Experiential Exercise is designed to tap into students’ intrapersonal and body-kinesthetic intelligence. They help students learn abstract ideas and make remote events accessible and meaningful.
Writing for Understanding activities improve both students’ understanding of key social studies concepts and their writing ability by engaging students in interactive experiences.
In these sessions, teachers will participate in interactive experiences and learn tips for implementing Experiential Exercise and Writing for Understanding in the classroom.
Learn more about each TCI strategy from the Interactive Methods Guidebook.

TEACHER OPPORTUNITIES
Ohio History Day - Call for Judges
Ohio History Day, an affiliate of National History Day, gives students in grades 4-12 the chance to become historians. Based on their own research and aligned to the annual theme, students create exhibits, documentaries, performances, websites and academic papers, and present their findings at competitions. Thousands of students take part in Ohio History Day competitions across the state each year.
This year the State Contest will be back in person on Sat., April 22 at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, OH! We’re looking for over 100 judges, and we hope you’ll be one of them! To register, please visit here: https://oh.nhd.org/.
Ohio History Day students are some of the most dedicated, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic in the state, and by volunteering as a judge, you are playing a vital role in helping them continue their learning journey.
Interested in learning more? Check out Ohio History Day’s Judge Page! Keep reading to find helpful videos, resources, and testimonials from previous judges. Got questions? We have answers – feel free to contact us at historyday@ohiohistory.org. We hope to see you soon at an Ohio History Day Contest!

These online learning opportunities examine classroom materials to support effective teaching of contemporary antisemitism and will explore ways to support students’ ability to actively respond to and prevent antisemitism and other forms of hate in their communities.
Participants must attend Days 1 and 2 to participate in Day 3, where we will be joined by Holocaust survivor Michael Bornstein and his daughter Debbie Holinstat for a special Q & A.

Skills Clinic, Session 3: Historical Thinking Skills - Causation
Join us March 7, from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. PT.,
for our Skills Clinic PD session on Causation!
While reading and writing are integral to any social studies course, it is also important to develop students' historical thinking practices. How can we help students understand the differences between long-term causes, short-term causes, and triggering events? How can students use this skill to gain a greater historical perspective? You will be excited by the buzz created in your classroom when you implement a few simple activities that strike at the heart of causation.
