Dear Families and Community Members,

It is an absolute privilege to be serving you as the new Superintendent of Windom Schools. I look forward to working with each of you as we continue to SOAR like Eagles!

Through transparent communication, collaboration among all stakeholders, highly-effective instruction, and belief in our students, this district will continue to serve students with excellence. This year we are going to focus on continuously improving the initiatives that we have in place including AVID(creating engaging lessons), Top 20 (social/emotional learning), and Trauma-Informed Schools (responding to our student's needs).

Later this school year, the community will be asked to participate in a strategic planning process. Through this, we will develop a vision, mission, and core values as well as goals and action steps for our district. Your input will be extremely valuable as we shape and plan for the future of Windom Schools.

The first day of school for grades 6-12 is September 6 and for grades PreK- 5, the first day is September 8. Entrance conferences are scheduled for grades PreK-5 on September 6 & 7. PreK and Elementary families received a packet in the mail including the date and time of the conference. Middle High School Students can find their schedule on Skyward to prepare for the first day! During the past two years, the federal government provided free breakfast and lunch for all students. Unfortunately, this program has ended. Breakfast is now $1.10 for all students and Lunch is $2.75 for grades preK-5 and $2.85 for grades 6-12. Families may qualify for free or reduced lunch based on income level. I encourage you to complete the Educational Benefits Form by printing it here or stopping by one of the school offices. This information is completely confidential. The income guidelines are below:

The automated calling system is set up to let families know when their food service balance is below $20 and again when the balance drops below zero. Payments can be made by logging into Skyward with your family ID or funds can dropped off at any school office. Before COVID, Windom Schools had 43% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch so please fill out the Educational Benefits Form to see if your family qualifies.

Districts are required to update Return to School plans every 6 months. The school board approved the most recent plan at the meeting on August 22. Please click here for the details.

Being a substitute teacher is highly rewarding and a way for you to pass along your knowledge to the next generation. In the state of Minnesota, a person with a 4-year degree (in any field) from a U.S.regionally accredited college/university OR 5 years of experience in a career and technical area such as Ag(farming), Construction, Business Ownership, Medical Services, etc. is eligible for a substitute license!

When you are a substitute teacher at Windom Area Schools, you can choose the level and content area that you’d like to work in! You can work one day a month or every day! The options are endless!

The more you work, the greater the pay! The daily rate of pay increases the more days you work ranging from $150 per day to $200 per day.

Legislation passed suspending earning limitations for the next three fiscal years (2022, 2023, & 2024). This means you can be a guest teacher (substitute) and not be penalized on your retirement benefits. You can accept or deny jobs based on your schedule for the day! And retired Windom Teachers are paid $175 per day until 11 days are accumulated, then youu are paid $200 per day! This is determined monthly. If you work 1-10 days during the month you get paid $175 per day. If you work 11 or more you get paid $200 for all 11+ days! Public Health in Windom is sponsoring "Coats for Kids." If you have donations, you can drop them off at the locations listed below. If your child needs a winter coat, a hat, and mittens, please go to the BARC on September 25 between 10:00am and 1:00pm to pick out these items for free. Thank you to Public Health for organizing this project and thank you to everyone who donates items to keep our students warm this winter.

In August, Windom Schools replaced 7 Roof Top Units that are responsible for heating, cooling, and dehumidification of the Middle High School. These massive units required a crane to lift onto the roof. Check out the photos below!
