Happy 2024 Charger Families!
Welcome back to the start of the 2nd semester and 2024! We got off to a cold and slippery start on Tuesday and it appears there is a possibility of more winter-like weather this coming weekend.
We are sending devices home with students this afternoon in the event tomorrow's weather takes a turn for the worse. Those devices also might be necessary for Tuesday, January 16 if the second round of storms forces us to go to remote instruction. If we do have in-person instruction for either Friday or Tuesday, please send those devices back with students. We are not sending chargers with devices, so please limit student use to school work, so they can complete remote instruction work.
In the event we do go to remote instruction, please check your email from your child's teacher with remote instruction work along with Google Meets check-in information and schedule to touch base with the teacher to check/clarify any questions.
This coming Monday, January 15th, school will not be in session for Martin Luther King Day Holiday.
There is information below of a free counseling program offered by UCO provided by graduate students in their final semester of this program. This program is available to anyone in need and the sign-up information is provided below and will be in the next several newsletters.
The January Smart Social Tip is listed below and details how social media challenges can be harmful or destructive students that partake in these challenges. If you have not done so already, please sign up for the Smart Social App that provides parents with information how to support or regulate student use of technology.
If we aren't in school tomorrow or longer due to the impending weather forecast, I hope you stay safe and warm this coming weekend. If the weather doesn't occur in a way to cancel in-person school tomorrow or Tuesday, please send devices back with students.

Calling all Substitutes - If you are interested in becoming a substitute, as a classroom teacher or classroom assistant, or even if you want to inquire more about the possibility of becoming a substitute in the future, please click on this link or you can call the school. The district has recently approved some additional incentives and greater pay opportunities for those that work as a substitute.
The order link for the 2023-24 Chisholm Yearbook is also included in this newsletter. The order deadline for purchasing a yearbook won't occur until February or March, but you can take care of this item at this time.
Possible Weather Related Virtual Instruction
Prior to these days and depending on the weather forecast, we will send student checked out devices home with the students. There also could be some paper/pencil work that is sent home as well. Teachers will create 2 Google Meets, morning and afternoon, and the meeting pin or nickname to access for your student to be able to check in with the teacher. Students would go to meet.google.com and enter this pin number, which would take them to the meeting. Student attendance will be taken from the work completed during the day of remote or virtual instruction when we return.
We will not send chargers home with students, so device use should be limited to school work only. Teachers will send instructions for remote day to the email listed in Infinite Campus. Hopefully, this won't happen often, but we wanted to make you aware in the event it does.

January Smart Social Tip of the Month
Our social media feeds often include the latest challenges which can be a fun way for students and adults to feel connected with their community on social media. Depending on the challenge, they can also be dangerous or harmful. It is important for parents and families to be aware of what’s popular on social media so you can help your student navigate the positives and negatives of these trends. This month’s Smart Social tip includes information about social media challenges and some ideas for how to have these conversations with your students. To access this information, just click on this link: https://smartsocial.com/post/social-media-challenges?org=edmond
And, remember, if you haven’t signed up for Smart Social yet, EPS is providing this resource to all of our families for free for this school year. When you click the link, it’ll prompt you to sign up for your free EPS account. We hope you continue to find this information useful!
