McKinney ISD Procedures for Inclement Weather Notification

It’s that time of year again when the possibility of inclement winter weather looms large in local forecasts. So, it’s important to know where to look for accurate information in the event of a McKinney ISD closing or delayed start.

During bad weather, the district makes every attempt to assess road conditions and notify staff and students as early as possible. The goal for notification is 5:30 a.m. However, there have been cases in which the weather worsened during the morning hours, and a decision was made slightly later than the 5:30 a.m. goal.

Please keep in mind that MISD will not send out or post notification to confirm school is in session. Parents, employees and students should assume a normal school day unless notified otherwise.

The district utilizes several communication methods to notify parents, students, and staff of a closing or delay. One of those methods is the SchoolMessenger automated system. We will send a phone call, text message, and email through SchoolMessenger. If you recently changed your phone number and have not notified the district, please make certain your information is accurate by contacting the registrar at your child’s campus.

In addition to a callout, text message, and email, the district posts information on the MISD Facebook page and Twitter page as well as the MISD website homepage (www.mckinneyisd.net). The district will also notify local television and radio outlets.

Our goal is to ensure that if the district does encounter a winter weather event, everyone will know where, and when, to expect information from MISD.

It is imperative that we all follow our arrival and dismissal procedures in order to keep all of our Marshals safe. Your student may be dropped off through carpool lane or parent walk up in the morning. If you are walking your student up to the front entrance, you will need to park in the South parking, cross the crosswalk, and then follow the sidewalk up to the front doors. Please DO NOT use the handicapped parking spots if you do not have proper permitting. Please follow the traffic flows on the maps below in order to allow our traffic to flow smoothly.

If you are picking your student up in carpool or parent walk-up, please make sure you have your McClure student pick up number with you for the 23-24 school year. For safety reasons the color of the tag changes yearly. Staff members will only release your student with the current year's tag.

Please use the correct location for your student's dismissal.

Please DO NOT park in the bus lane at any time during the day. This includes arrival and dismissal. The fire lane is for Daycare, School Buses and emergency vehicles only!

A valid state or government issued photo ID must be presented each time you visit, volunteer, or pick up a student. Please be prepared with your ID upon arrival. We are not allowed to accept a photo of your government issued photo ID.

Interested in volunteering in McKinney ISD for the 2023-2024 school year? Volunteer applications are being accepted for the upcoming school year. McKinney ISD requires all volunteers complete the required volunteer process each school year.

All volunteers with McKinney ISD agree to a background check each school year prior to beginning volunteer duties. McKinney ISD is dedicated to making sure that all students have the opportunity to learn and grow in a safe and secure environment.

The volunteer application process is just one effort used by the school administration to help make our schools safe.

VOLUNTEER APPLICATIONS MAY TAKE UP TO TWO WEEKS TO BE PROCESSED.

To apply, click the link below and select the School or schools of your choice. An email account is required for notification purposes. Once your volunteer application is processed and the criminal background check is complete, you will receive an e-mail notification regarding your application from the MISD Human Resources department.

McClure PTO is a group of parents (moms and dads) working in partnership with school staff to help keep families informed and involved.

Studies have shown students do better in school when parents are engaged at school.
