Schimelpfenig Middle School
Special Edition e-News
Panther Parents-
I wanted to send a few quick pieces of information that might be helpful in the days leading up to the start of school.
Monday, August 10 - Schedules released to students/parents through parent portal (tentative date)
Wednesday, August 12 - First Day of School (Full remote learning for ALL students from Wednesday, August 12 - Tuesday, September 8)
Distribution of Chromebooks & Textbooks:
Last spring, it was an option to pick up a Chromebook if your family did not have a device available for student use at home. This fall, all students need a PISD Chromebook, and all students must check one out. All students will be required to utilize a district issued Chromebook for some or all of their schoolwork. One example of when a Chromebook will be required is for testing. The district has software that will be utilized to help create a secure testing environment, and this software is only accessible through a district Chromebook.
Thanks,

Chromebook and School Supply Pick-Up Information
As we embark on this school year noting the current state of our communities, it is our commitment to make sure each student is prepared to begin the school year in the online learning platform! Although this is not ideal for how we would desire to start the year, we partner with the district in making this a successful endeavor as we seek to educate and protect all students and staff. And although this is a nontraditional start to the year, we approach it with confidence, commitment to excellence, and a partnership mentality. We will need your support! We are here to answer questions, reassure, and provide information in a timely manner as we receive it from the district. This is ever-changing and we appreciate your patience with us as we begin this journey!
Noted below is information regarding our Schimelpfenig Back to School Supply Pick-Up! Please reference the information below to assist us in making sure your student(s) are ready to actively engage in the online learning platform! As you know, per the district ‘Back to School Manual” provided to you via district communication, students are expected to log in daily to each assigned course. We want to make sure your student(s) has all materials necessary to do so. A map is also attached to provide guidelines for the curbside supply pick-up (links are embedded with details of what you need to complete BEFORE the Supply Pick-Up Date). The first day of online classes is August 12, 2020.
Each student at Schimelpfenig M.S. will be issued a Chromebook and charger for educational purposes. Students are responsible for the device issued to them and should not allow it to be used by other students outside of PISD or their individual households. Due to the 1:1 nature of our Chromebook program, whether students will be engaging in Face-to-Face learning or School@Home, all students should pick-up their assigned Chromebook at Schimelpfenig as indicated above. Students who opt for Face-to-Face learning will carry this device back and forth when learning commences on campus on September 9th. In addition, every student will receive at a minimum a math textbook and/or consumable workbook. There may be other curriculum items provided based on your students schedule. Please arrive with your sign on your right window door, with your student’s name, grade and student ID#. Please make sure to use black large font so it is visible to staff! Should changes arise we will be in contact with you! We look forward to seeing you soon!
