With just over a week to go until the end of the first semester, there are lots of things happening here at GLOBE. Please be sure to scroll through all of the information below for news and important updates. Go GLOBE!
Spirit Night at Chipotle
Come and support GLOBE today, December 6, from 4pm to 8pm at the Northlake area Chipotle (2078 Henderson Mill Rd NE, Atlanta, GA, 30345). Chipotle will donate 33% of event sales to PTCC. Please bring the flyer or show a picture of it on your phone to ensure that PTCC receives the donation from your purchase. If ordering online for pick up, enter AF7JWYN in the promo code field. We hope to see you there!
Last day to donate to the PTCC Staff Gift Fund
The GLOBE PTCC Staff Gift Fund provides winter holiday gifts to every teacher and staff member as a token of our appreciation for the dedication they show our children every day. Suggested donation: $50 per child per school year. Donate here before end of day, December 6.
Lower Campus Notes
Planetarium in the Village Plaza!
All second grade homerooms got to participate in an in-house field trip this week in the form of a full planetarium in the VP. Photographs were not allowed inside the planetarium, but be sure to ask your 2nd grade student about the experience!
Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) testing this week
Winter MAP testing continues on Thursday, December 7 and Friday, December 8 for Kindergarten and first grades. Please ensure your child eats a healthy breakfast each morning and gets a good night’s rest the evening prior to testing.
2nd and 3rd grade Winter Concerts at Lower Campus
Winter concerts for 2nd and 3rd grade students take place on Friday, December 8. Parents/guardians of students taking part are welcome to attend. The schedule is as follows: 8:30am - French Track | 10:00am - Mandarin Track | 1:30pm - Spanish Track. If you attend, please be mindful of ‘No Parking’ zones around campus.
Morning Carpool
As the weather gets cooler, please continue to ensure your child is ready to exit the car as soon as you pull up to the curb.
Upper Campus Notes
Science Fair a huge success!
Thank you to all of the 5th through 8th grade students for their hard work and participation in last week’s Science Fair. The energy at the fair was full of excitement and we were extremely impressed with the caliber of the students' work and the passion shown as they pursued their topics of interest. Check out episode 5 of Finding Ollie from 3:35 to 5:07 for a little insight. The top four projects in 5th grade, and the top five projects in middle-school will be moving on to the DeKalb County Fair in February, where GLOBE will certainly be very well represented. We will be following up with the families of successful students regarding the next steps.
Grab some extra study time with The Breakfast Club
The Breakfast Club is happening every morning in the UC cafeteria, from 7:30 am to 8:00 am. Your child(ren) are welcome to spend time here before school starts at 8:00 am to study, or to catch up with work. Ms. Marin and Ms. Catinella are also willing to help students who may be struggling to stay organized and manage their time effectively. Please note, this will not be a time for them to socialize with friends. If students are not working, they will be sent to their homeroom to prepare for the school day.
Next week is Spirit Week at UC
From Monday to Friday next week, the daily themes are as follows:
Monday - Team spirit and hats day
Tuesday - Twins/triplets dress alike day
Wednesday - Holiday socks day
Thursday - Ugly sweater day
Friday - PJ day
High School Transition Information Evening - December 14
Join us on Thursday, December 14 at 5pm in the UC Cafeteria. We will cover high school options, 9th grade course selections, graduation requirements, and dual enrollment. Students are welcome to attend. Current High School transition resources are available HERE on the Middle School Counseling website.
Teachers receive CREST awards for Community
Ms. Sobeyda Spivey and Ms. Elsa Barré both received CREST awards for Community at a recent staff meeting. Ms. Spivey for going above and beyond in helping the PTCC to organize their activities, and Ms. Barre for her support of students by differentiating lessons. Each month we recognize some of our amazing teachers and teaching assistants for their displays of CREST. In the month of November, we recognized Lisbeth Cano (5th grade, Spanish), Paola Lopez (MS Spanish), Thalia Bruen (7th grade, Math), Julie Gerhardt (MS Band), Becca Mashburn (MS Orchestra), Clarence Brantley (8th grade Social Studies), Whitney Braun (6th grade ELA), and Danielle Patterson (PE).
Finding Ollie, Episode 5
Click here to view the latest episode, produced by students in Mr Brantley's 8th grade Leadership and Communication class. As the episodes unfold, all of Upper Campus' incredible students will get a chance to share their light.

Lost and Found: Please label your items!
Parent volunteers return labeled items to the owner's classroom. If your items are not labeled, they may never make it back home. Please take a moment to find a labeling solution that will work for you. Here are some ideas to get you started: Avery No-Iron Kids Clothing Labels, Sharpie Fabric Marker, and Mabel's Labels (customizable labels and stamps, dishwasher and laundry safe. Enter "The GLOBE Academy" in the "support a fundraiser" field, and they'll donate 20% back to GLOBE!).
Volunteer hours can help GLOBE receive grants
Did you know that when you volunteer, it can help GLOBE receive grants? Some donors want to know how involved the community is. We can show them that parents are invested in the school by sharing the volunteer hours we have tracked. So please remember to log your hours here. When you log your time, you'll also be entered in our drawing for a volunteer-of-the-month carpool flag. As a reminder, each family is requested to volunteer ten hours each year. To see current volunteer opportunities, click here. Thank you for volunteering at GLOBE.
Shopping can help GLOBE!
Did you know when you shop at places like Publix, Kroger, and OfficeMax/Office Depot, they will donate to GLOBE PTCC? To find out how to easily set this up, click here. Every penny counts!
